Activity/class organisation: The teacher greets the class and checks attendance.
Time: 6 minutes
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to open their notebooks and read the
homework. Some students are asked to come to the blackboard and write their answers, if
necessary. The teacher offers feedback.
Activity 3: Lead in
Objective: To activate students’ previous knowledge.
To develop speaking skills.
Time: 8 minutes
Activity/class organisation: The students are asked to listen to a song and guess the topic of the
new unit, then they have to look at some images related to the theme introduced and brainstorm
different types of pollution, give a definition to the term, identify its causes, etc. In the discussion
are brought too some ideas from the warm-up activities in the book. In the end of this stage the
students are also asked to work in pairs and fill in the gaps from the summary in the warm up
section in the book.
Anticipated problems: Ss may not master the necessary vocabulary for this task.
Activity 4: Presentation
Objective: To introduce new vocabulary.
To develop speaking and reading skills.
Time: 12 minutes
Anticipated problems: Students may not be able to fill in the gaps correctly.
Activity 5: Practice
Objective: To practice the new structures.
Time: 10 minutes
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to do the next three exercises from
the textbook. At each exercise she gives them support and feedback.
Activity 6: Production
Time: 10 minutes
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to work in groups and write a report/
an article for our local newspaper, about our town. They have to outline how they think our town
is dealing with the problems of pollution, rubbish and recycling and make recommendations as
to how these could be improved.
Resources: handouts.
Time: 2 minutes.
Activity/class organisation The teacher assigns the homework by giving clear instructions.
Then she congratulates the students and rewards good feedback.

Anticipated problems: Ss may not understand clearly what they have to do at home.
