Learning Experiences
Learning Outcome 1
Understanding network (design, tools equipment and testing devices)
Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Understand Network materials, tools, and Equipment and its
function
2. Plan cable route of a network
NETWORK MATERIALS
Network Tools
1. Crimping Tool- A crimping tool is a device used to
conjoin two pieces of metal by deforming one or both
of them in a way that causes them to hold each
other. The result of the tool's work is called a crimp.
A good example of crimping is the process of affixing
a connector to the end of a cable. For instance,
network cables and phone cables are created using a crimping tool (shown
below) to join the RJ-45 and RJ-11 connectors to the both ends of either
phone or CAT5 cable
Network Equipment
4. HUB- a hub is the most basic networking device that connects multiple
computers or other network devices together. Unlike a network switch or
router, a network hub has no routing tables or intelligence on where to send
information and broadcasts all network data across each connection
5. Patch Panel- A panel that allows multiple devices to be connected and
managed in a more efficient manner. Computer networks, sound studios,
television stations, and a number of other systems use patch panels to deal
with components of their electronic systems. The picture is an example of a
Cat5 patch panel.
Multiple choices:
1. Also called a krone tool, is a hand tool used to connect
telecommunications and network wires to a patch panel.
a. RJ45 b. RJ46
c. RJ47 d. RJ48
Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Know the parts of Crimping Tool
2. Know how to install network cable
8. The process of cutting out the outer skin of UTP cable using utility
knife or a crimping tool
a. Striping b. Trimming
c. Arranging d. cutting
10. The process of untwisted wires in a row, placing them into the
position
a. Striping b. Trimming
c. Arranging d. cutting

2. Insert the wires into the RJ-45 connector
3. Use the crimping tool to crimp the RJ-45 connector
4. follow step 1 and 2 to other end of cable with same color-
coding type to create straight-through cable
5. arrange your wire color coding in to T568A or T568B type
