Q1) A manometer connects an oil pipeline and a water pipeline as shown in the figure below. Determine the
difference in pressure between the two pipelines using the readings on the manometer. The specific gravity of
oil and mercury is 0.86 and 13.6 respectively. (5Marks)

Q2) Convert the volumetric flow rate of 35 gallons per minute into mass flow rate in pounds per minute,
assuming the fluid to be water. (Hint : consider US gallon) (3 marks)

Q3) Liquid having specific gravity 0.9 flows through a horizontal pipe of diameter 150 mm. A venturimeter
having a diameter of 75 mm at the throat and 150 mm at the enlarged end is fitted in the pipeline to measure the
volumetric flowrate of the liquid flowing through the pipe. The coefficient of discharge of the venturimeter is
given as 0.97, and the difference of pressure head between the enlarged end and throat recorded by U-tube is
175 mm of mercury. Determine the discharge through the pipe in litres/sec. (7 marks)
