BMS FOR INDUSTRIAL STORAGE BATTERY BANK FOR STANDBY FLOAT APPLICATION

Chloride Power Systems and Solutions Limited, formerly known as Caldyne Automatics Limited, is a 100%
subsidiary of Exide Industries Limited. Established in 1980, it is a leading name in the field of Industrial Battery
Charger, DC Power Solutions and Solar Power systems in India. As a part of its policy of continuous innovation,
Chloride introduces its integrated Battery Monitoring System for industrial storage battery bank for stand by
float application.
The Battery Monitoring System (BMS) is a microcontroller based equipment which continuously monitors and
checks the trend of individual cells in a battery bank. BMS will be connected to each and every cell through
suitable interconnecting wires. BMS measures individual cell voltage periodically. It also has the option of both
manual and auto scanning. Chloride BMS captures various parameters like voltage, current, cell temperature,
ambient temperature etc on an on-going basis, stores these data in a suitable memory and uses an intelligent
software to analyze the data to ascertain the trend of individual cells. This trend analysis coupled with the
algorithm prepared on the basis of battery manufacturer's input enables the system to identify a weak cell, if
any, in the battery bank. If a particular cell is found weak, an audio-visual alarm / annunciation is generated
for the user's attention. It also annunciates bank 'under voltage' condition. Potential free contact is provided for
remote alarm / control.
MAIN APPLICATION AREA:
1)Power Plants & Substations 2) IT, ITES & Office Automation 3) Steel Plants 4) Petrochemicals
& Refineries 5) Chemical and Fertilizer Plants 6) Cement Plants 7) Railways

REMOTE MONITORING:
The system can be monitored from a distance up to 1 Km approximately through RS-485 link with the help of
remote monitoring software provided by Chloride. Chloride will provide the remote monitoring installation
software CD. The data logging feature will be available only on the PC side through the remote monitoring
software.
Provisions of PC based monitoring system of BMS:
1) RS-485 connectivity for remote monitoring up to 1 km distance (approx.).
2) Graphical representation of data and logging facility.
3) Display of battery bank voltage and charge/discharge current on PC.
4) Individual cell voltages (last scanned) displayed in a view area with scrolling option.
5) Display for weak cells.
6) Battery Bank status (Healthy/Under voltage) with indication.
7) Logged data export facility in 'csv' format.
8) Graphs (Two types – Historical and Online):
a) Graph of 'Total Bank Voltage' with respect to time.
b) Graph of individual 'Cell Voltage' with respect to time & its comparison with 'Average Cell
Voltage'.

FEATURES OF CHLORIDE BMS:

1) Measures individual cell voltage with high accuracy.
2) Generates audio-visual alarm as soon as a cell is found weak or the battery goes below pre-defined
under voltage value or a cell is open.
3) Measured cell voltages can be seen on the display LCD.
4) Weak cell numbers are also available on the LCD at BMS panel.
5) Battery charging & discharging current displayed on the LCD.
6) Free digital input port
7) Average cell voltage displayed on the LCD.
8) Ambient temperature of the battery room 2-150° C displayed on LCD.
9) Measure pilot cell temperature
10) 6nos free digital input port
11) Remote communication with PC through RS 485 link using software provided by Chloride.
12) Remote Scan switch for manual scanning.
13) Wall mountable.

Optional Features:
IN-BUILT GSM MODULE
1. Battery bank condition can be monitored from any place through a sms on a mobile phone.
2. Fault information in the battery bank can be sent to any pre-decided mobile number.
3. Sender & recipient can be configured as per the requirement.
DATA EXPORT FEATURE:
Logged data can be extracted from the software for preparation of user
friendly reports in the PC, This report will be in 'CSV' file format and will
include the following:
a) Date & Time.
b) Ambient Temperature.
c) Average cell voltage of battery bank.
d) Bank voltage.
e) Current with charging or discharging mode in separate column.
f) Cell voltages with cell number.
g) Cell Status (Weak/OK).

ADVANTAGES OF BMS:
ü Easy servicing and predictive maintenance of cells.
ü Individual cell voltages and its trend can be monitored from a distance.
ü Audio alarm with LED indication for weak cell on the front panel of BMS.
ü Pre-detection alarm of any abnormality of the cell in a battery bank.
ü Battery charging and discharging current is displayed on the LCD as well as on PC interface software.
ü BMS communicates remotely with computer through RS485 port.
ü Graphical representation of the data on the software.
ü History and online view of data. It can be seen, as and when required, in the graphical form.
ü By looking at the comparison chart of individual cell voltage with its average cell voltage, the trend of
apparticular cell and its abnormality if any, can be identified.
ü No AC input is required for its operation
