The EO Experience

This is Akash Padmane. I am working under the Open Learning Initiative(OLI) and I
create videos of class 10th science subject in Marathi.
It has been a wonderfull experience working under the open learning initiative. At first it
seemed difficult for me to even write in Marathi (Even with Google’s help). But later on
after one video it has now become easy. I chose to work for the open learning initiative so
that I can learn more about E-Education and be a part of body that has such a noble goal
to connect children who can’t learn or have problem in pursuing education , help the and
all this in their native language.
Also I belive that we as students of IIT should are fortunate enough to have been able to
go to proper Schooling coaching and enter into IIT but there might be thousands of other
kids who due to financial , cultural or any other reason might not be able to discover the
talent within him/her and miss out the opportunity of gaining further education. This bugs
me a lot. So I belive OLI is the perfect way to tackle this problem so that I allows kids.
There were several hardships that I faced during making the videos and the prominent
was voice-over. But the good thing is that I also got a chance to learn about my mother
tounge (Marathi) and how it is spoken formally.
Another problem was editing part and making the presentation. The hard part isn’t the
presentation of software but the content that has to be put in the video and decide whether
that piece of information is sufficient of important enough to be put into the video.
Also as the first chapter that I did was kind of a informative one so and the chapters in
Class 10th Science are bit information based(except for physics ones), so the learning part
isn’t much there but the theory part dominates.
In the meanwhile I also did 2 videos for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. This was a
altogether experience. From teaching class 10th kids virtually over youtube now I was
instructing Farmers and villagers on the scientific know-how of farming rabi crops.
I made a video on the crop of Brinjal and cabbage. The main aim of the video was to
educate the farmers about the basic of farming and all the precautions that the should take
while planting crops so that they can prevent loss and gain maximum yield.
I felt great while making these videos. Today in our country farmers face problems
ranging from water shortage to others . In this case the illiteracy of farmers and their lack
of awareness creates problems for them. This indirectly affects the whole nation as 70%
of India’s population is dependent on farming. So this is a great initiative to use our
knowledge and with the power of technology we are educating them and preventing their
losses.
Also I guess the main thing that I liked about the OLI is that it bridges the gap between
us and those who need our help with the power of technology and gives us a chance to
contribute to the society and help the under privileged by means of our knowledge.
The journey has not been easy. It felt hard while working on videos and time consuming
which led to missing some deadlines. But I guess that the result I great. Now I am able to
make the same videos (of bigger chapters ) In possibly less time and now I also feel
comfortable while voice overs.

Overall the experience was awesome
