Ethics and Accusation

I. Being ethical is almost always takes you out of your way.

A. This is why you must use moderation.

B. If you do what is convenient, it probably will not be what is ethical.

C. Ethics and what is convenient seldom go down the same road.

D. Many times what is the ethical thing to do will be somewhat of a headache to you.

E. If I am ethical, I am almost always forfeiting some of my rights.

F. I am almost always going out of my way and inconveniencing myself to be ethical.

II. Learn to ignore your enemies and don’t allow them to dictate what you preach.

A. Don’t let someone else chewing on you or lying on you, whether just or unjust.

B. Do not let your critics get your attention.

C. Whoever has your attention will dictate what you do and say.

D. Make sure that God has your attention.

III. If you are a pastor, you are a fool if you use the pulpit to fight your personal battles.

A. You are going to hurt them and not help them.

B. People don’t need to know about the personality conflicts of fundamentalism.

C. They don’t need to know who is fighting who.

D. It is unethical to expose young converts to that kind of information.

3.Priniciple.

IV. It is unethical to do favors at the expense of my people.

A. If it will help the man and my people, then I will have him.

B. Never have someone in strictly as a favor to him.

C. It is unethical for me to fight your battles in my pulpit.

V. Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and

strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our

brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

A. The accuser of the brethren is part of Satan’s job description.

B. The devil is as the devil does.

C. He is the accuser.

VI. Sometimes the devil accuses us before the throne of God.

A. When the devil tries to accuse us before God, he doesn’t get anywhere.

B. He does not change God’s attitude toward us.

C. Even when his accusations weren’t true.

D. The devil is a liar and will make up accusations.

E. We give him plenty of ammunition and shortcomings.

F. Jesus ever liveth to make intercession for us.

1.The reason the devil never changes our standing with Christ because of the

intercession of Christ.

VII. The devil accuses God to us.

A. He tells us how rough we have it.

B. He tells us that God is not fair.

C. You deserve better than this.

D. He tries to get us on a pity party.

VIII. He accuses us to each other.

A. The devil is a master instigator.

B. He is always trying to stir a fuss amongst people.

C. Most fights in churches today are because of the accuser of the brethren stirring

people up.

D. We need to be careful not to quickly receive accusation against our brother.

E. Don’t accuse one another.

1.When we start accusing one another, the Lord’s people are doing the devil’s

work.

2.You are acting like the devil.

F. Galatians 6:1, “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual,

restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be

tempted.”

1.Not accuse, but restore.

2.Before I restore someone, they must repent.

3.I am not supposed to be the judge, jury, and executioner.

4.I am not supposed to let the devil manipulate my mind so that I will accuse

people in my heart.

5.We have attitudes toward people because of preconceived ideas.

6.Pre-judge

a. Stereotype without the facts.

G. Romans 2:15, “Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their

conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else

excusing one another;)”

1.He is talking about my thoughts.

2.You are either accusing or excusing them in your mind.

a. If your enemy does it, you are accusing them.

b. If your friend does it, you are excusing them.

3.That is not just.

4.I must measure everybody by the same measuring stick.

H. John 5:45, “Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that

accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.”

1.Jesus has the biggest right to accuse you.

2.The Word of God will accuse and convict you.

3.The most qualified person in the universe to accuse someone refused to do

it.

4.We shouldn’t either.

I. 2 Peter 2:11; Jude 9, “Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring

not railing accusation against them before the Lord. Yet Michael the archangel, when

contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring

against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

1.They didn’t accuse the devil, but just said, “The Lord rebuke thee.”

2.We are going to turn you over to God and let God take care of you.

3.If the angels refused to accuse the devil whom they know are guilty, we

should not accuse people who we think are guilty.

J. 1 Timothy 5:19, “Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three

witnesses.”

1.A witness is someone who sees and knows something.

2.They have facts.

3.Not someone who just wants to accuse.

4.The abundance of accusation does not automatically make someone guilty.

a. Accusations must be backed up with facts.

b. I assume innocence until proven guilty.

c. The burden of truth is not on the accused party.

5.It is unethical for me to take part in an unproven accusation.

a. It is unethical for me to make an accusation.

i. I should leave that up to God.

ii. God will take care of the accusing.

iii. He never fails in judgment.

iv. I should not act like the devil.

v. When I start accusing the brethren, I am in jeopardy of that.

K. Let God judge His servants, don’t do it yourself.

1.Don’t hurl condemnation on them.

L. Don’t use the part, “He is not one of us.”

1.Just because he is not one of you does not mean that I want to shut him up.

M. I need to expose heresy.

1.I need to be careful to stand in judgment of my brethren.

2.Especially those whom I have a personal problem with.

IX. The devil accuses us to us.

A. He tries to condemn our conscience.

B. Try to make you believe you are lost.

C. That God won’t forgive you.

D. He will try to get your conscience so wounded that you will just give up.

X. The ethical thing is:

A. Not getting involved in accusations.

B. Not receiving accusations from other people.

C. When you have an accusing heart, examine your heart and figure out what is wrong.
