NEWS FLASH - U.S. Senator John Boozman will be in Jonesboro, Arkansas tomorrow (Tuesday, 8-27-19) at 1:45 PM as Delta
Peanut officially ‘breaks ground’ for her shelling facilities. As part of his Agriculture Tour of the state he plans to spend time with
Delta Peanut’s farmer members as well as lenders and other stakeholders prior to the ground breaking and site tour.
Also attending will include: U. S. Congressman Rick Crawford, Wes Ward, Secretary of Agriculture for Arkansas,
Harold Perrin Mayor of Jonesboro, and Mark Young, President Jonesboro Unlimited.
NEW PEANUT POWDER INTRODUCED BY PB2 FOODS - In a first for the category, PB2 Foods has begun rolling out PB2
Peanut Powder with Prebiotics & Probiotics, bringing the trend of offering additional functional benefits in new formulas to the nut
butter market. The new product is now available at Walmart locations nationwide and is expected to hit shelves in other retail
locations beginning in September, when it also will be available on Amazon.
"This item is completely unique within our category, because no one else in the food business has produced a peanut butter
powder with prebiotics and probiotics," explained Craig Entwistle, the chief executive officer of PB2 Foods. "We're also introducing a
no sugar added element as part of this product, and that is a big differentiator for us that we know will translate to sales."
PB2 with Pre + Probiotics contains 6 grams of plant-based protein per 13-gram serving, which amounts to about 2
tablespoons. It also has just 60 calories and 1.5 grams of fat per serving, or roughly 90-percent less fat and nearly 70-percent fewer
calories than traditional peanut butter.
"We are the creators of the category," Entwistle stated. "And we pride ourselves on being the pioneers of the powdered nut
butter space. So, we're always listening to our consumers and developing new products to better suit their evolving needs."

SUPPORTING AGRICULTURE - U.S. Rep. Austin Scott (R-Dist. 8), who serves on the House Agriculture Committee, encouraged
farmers recently to support candidates who understand and support agriculture with their time and donations to ensure that farmers
continue to have a voice in Congress. Rep. Scott had that same message to the joint meeting of the buying points and shellers and
again to Georgia Farm Bureau.
“I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican. What I do care about is that when we go to the polls in a November
election that we have someone who can support agriculture. In some cases, we’re getting two candidates to the ballot who don’t
understand or support agriculture,” Scott said. “Let’s make sure we’ve got pro-ag Democrats and pro-ag Republicans on the
ballot.”
Rep. Scott said that 22 members of the GOP Congress have retired, 10 GOP members are seeking other offices. 9
GOP members are retiring soon including Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama, Rep. Mike Conaway of Texas and Rep. Rob
Woodall of Georgia. Rep. Bradley Byrne of Alabama will be seeking another office. These have all been key leaders in
agriculture legislation and especially peanuts. He noted that PAC contributions matter. “We need to look at it as a cost of
doing business.”
While Georgia currently has a U.S. Congressional delegation that supports agriculture, Scott expressed concern that
agriculture and rural America are losing support overall in Congress. He wants farmers to understand the importance of electing
candidates who understand and support rural issues.
“Our primaries of both parties are being controlled by outside groups that are raising tremendous amounts of money. We’re
in danger of getting candidates from both parties who know nothing about agriculture and don’t support it.”
GOLDEN’S CLINT PIPER TALKS FUTURE – Proud to be a farm boy from Nebraska, Clint Piper, the new President of Golden
Peanut and Tree Nut, notes that there is plenty to do working together. He said, “Where do we want to go together as an industry.
What about industry wide sustainability, future legislation, implementing technology, allergy treatment and even gene editing. Who
has decision rights?”
He highlighted several issues that need the industry’s attention: Safety, Regulations, Sustainability, Research, Globalization,
Legislation, Allergy, Weather and Technology.
As an action industry, “We must prioritize strategic action and align as an industry. Challenge status quo and focus on
continuous improvement for the entire peanut industry.”
PEANUTS, COTTON & UGA SPONSOR RESEARCH FIELD DAY - The Georgia Cotton Commission, Georgia Peanut
Commission and the University of Georgia Extension Cotton and Peanut Teams, will co-sponsor a joint research field day on
Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, in Tifton, Georgia. The field day starts at 8:00 a.m. at the University of Georgia Lang Farm at 276 Rigdon
Aultman Road in Tifton, Georgia. Field day attendees will also visit the UGA Gibbs Farm at 226 William Gibbs Road in Tifton,
Georgia, before returning to the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center for lunch and a short program. The field day is a free event.
