OJT FEEDBACK PAPER

Name: Dela Cruz, Jomari B. Faculty-In-Charge: Engr. Rommel G. Ramos
Name of Company & Department: Meralco Valenzuela Sector – North System Analysis,
Construction 1, Maintenance, Construction 2 and Operations
Subject & Section: NEC597-1D Semester & School Year: Summer 2019

I. INTRODUCTION
I had my On-the Job Training at Meralco Valenzuela Sector located at Facilities
Building Valenzuela Sector, T. Santiago Street, Veinte Reales, Valenzuela, 1440
Metro Manila started on the 22 nd of April 2019. I devoted more than a month
submitting resume to various companies. It includes companies from the Job Fair
conducted at University of the East – Caloocan. However, none of these companies
called me or accepted. I have gone to some other companies, partners of University
of the East, and had my resume submitted. I received e-mails from some of the
companies I applied indicating that I am qualified to be their intern. These companies
include partners and non-partners of UE and government offices.
National Telecommunications Commission, National Grid Corporation of the
Philippines, Philippine Airlines and Meralco’s attention caught by my application.
However, NGCP was a non-partnered company of UE. I tried to establish the
partnership between the two for them to let me start my internship but the processing
of Memorandum of agreement took me a hard time while NTC and PAL would take 2
to 3 hours of travel from my house to their office and vice-versa. On the other hand,
Meralco has branches, both business center and sector, near my place. Therefore, I
chose Meralco.

II. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING FROM THE COMPANY

Areas of Learning
A. Cognitive or Intellectual Learning
I was taught from how our electricity reach our home to how they maintain
the reliability of their distribution system and how they assess troubles from their
lines. I was also taught of some terms and lessons that involved just in electrical
engineering.
I was able to be part of the North System Analysis department which allowed
me to have a field work/supervision and the programming and downloading of
their relay at the sector and its installation at the poles.
Construction 1 and Construction 2 department, since I am an ECE student
as well as just an intern, didn’t allowed me to handle or be part field project.
However, they spent time in the morning to teach us of the jobs their do and new
concepts about Meralco where I encountered concepts just for Electrical
Engineering. They explained it well to help me to catch up. As an intern, I was
tasked in the preparation of necessary documents before and after was done.
Maintenance department taught us how they try to maintain the
distribution system of Meralco, the trouble and solutions they usually encounter
such as accidental electrocution of a customer and the how they make the
distribution reliable.
Operations department taught us how the customer-related
problems/troubles called to their call center reach their database or SCADA and
make us familiarize or give us a brief discussion of their single line diagram and
made us familiar with the circuit location through map.
B. Affective or Emotional Learning
Criticism is always part of work. Though preventable, mistakes in jobs or in
any task and work are unavoidable. I was able to receive criticism of my work. I
learned to accept those criticism without holding grudge in spite of tiredness and
pressure, since I work with engineers. In that circumstance, I was able to make
my work better. Furthermore, in spite of the age gap, I was able to socialize and
had a good time with the people in the company.

C. Psychomotor or Physical Learning

It was evident that school works was nothing compared to jobs in the
industry. Since it involves projects and works that must be time in the given time
without any extensions as in schools, it was very tiring and stressful. I was able
to cope with the requirement. Which made me realize that I can do more things
and tasks than I expected at a given time in spite of tiredness.

III. AREAS TO IMPROVE

A. About Self
Though I encountered and was able to socialize to many people of
different personalities in the company, I still feel that I still can’t put my guard
down and prevent my self to be more comfortable with them and it may apply to
other people. I try to improve more my social skills towards other people
especially co-workers.

B. For the OJT Company

Meralco Valenzuela Sector has no laboratories where OJT students will be
able to be more familiar of the things/equipment they use. It could help the
student be more knowledgeable by doing practical application such as testing or
construction. However, it is understandable that safety comes first.

C. For the OJT Program

Meralco engineers allotted their time to taught us the basics of their tasks
and jobs. However, interns were taught by the engineers depending on their
assigned department. It would be better to have the OJT program organized and
make the lectures in group. Since the interns in Meralco didn’t start the same
time, we are spread out of different department. It would be easy for a student to
adapt if he/she be put with the other interns. The OJT program will be more
effective if the lectures will be put into work. Meralco OJT program allowed
engineers to taught us the technical aspects and designs they do as well as the
office papers and stuff. It would be better to practice the lectures, maybe not in
the field but possible in laboratories, and not just the office practices.

IV. RECOMMENDATIONS (For each of the item of III A, B and C)

I would try to join other school recognized organization aside from the
organization that is related to my course in order for me to meet new people of
different personalities that would make me able to socialize more.
It would be better if Meralco has laboratories in Valenzuela Sector which
will allow OJT students to experience more in technical aspects such as testing
of materials and equipment. It will also increase the knowledge of the OJT
students not just in technical but also to other concepts especially in electrical
distribution.
