JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC SCHOOL REGARDING THE QUALITY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JANSPORT AND HAWK BAG 1
CHAPTER I
This chapter presents the introduction, statement of the problem, and significance of the
study, and scope and delimitations of the study.
Introduction
Today, the demand for different products are increasing tremendously. Since various
businesses offer a lot of products, perfect competition happens. With this, they tend to improve
their own products to be purchased by consumers. It is an advantage for the buyers since they tend
to have many choices or alternatives. One of the noticeable major demands is bag. These are
recommended for them in different types such as handbags, sling bags, shoulder bags, and the
most used of them all, back bags. People in different ages are users of these products, especially
the students which are the leading users of them. According to the Statistics Porta (2018), “revenue
of the bags along with accessories segment in the Philippines amounts to US$27m in 2018. User
penetration is 21.9% in 2018 and is expected to hit 26.1% by 2022.” But what are really their major
considerations in choosing a certain product? Is quality a big impact for them in choosing or buying
the certain product?
Quality products make an important contribution to long-term revenue and profitability. They also
enable you to charge and maintain higher prices.
Quality influences a company’s reputation. The growing importance of social media means
that customers and prospects can easily share both favorable opinions and criticism of your product
quality on forums, product review sites and social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.
A strong reputation for quality can be an important differentiator in markets that are very
competitive. Poor quality or a product failure that results in a product recall campaign can create
negative publicity and damage your reputation (Ian Linton, 2018).
Bags play a very vital role in daily lives of students all the time. Also, they are crucial in
one’s lives. With the fast pace of modern life, bags still maintain a key position in one’s life and
have become even more important.
Most of the people in the society, especially students can't leave the house without bringing
their bag with them. In line with this, students always tend to look for the best items that would
satisfy their needs, preferences and tastes. senior high school students in particular have the most
crucial buying decisions. They are very precise with the items that they wanted to use in school.
Primarily, they are also the one who directly buys and chooses what product to purchase. Since
after all, having a bag alongside is an effortless way of carrying loosened change, a cell phone, a
hair brush, a vial of fragrance, reading material, and all other things that a student must have in
going to school. Carrying a bag is one of the most convenient way in packing the things that a
person must have in his/her everyday life. Moreover, bags can hold or carry things. It may be made
from cloth, leather, plastic, or even paper. Many bags are disposable but some are made to use for
a long time. It comes in different shapes and sizes depending on how they will be used.
Backpacks for senior high school students are more efficient to use most likely when they
have lots of things to bring inside the school. Various brands of backpacks are in the market and
have lots of differences in price, quality, designs, colors, durability, affordability and such.
Furthermore, according to Business Dictionary (2018), buying behavior is the decision processes
and acts of people included in purchasing and using products. The process by which individuals
search for the things that they need in order to satisfy their needs and wants.
In this modern time, most of the people in different ages cannot leave their house without
bringing their bags. Since bags are mainly used for carrying things, used by almost everyone in
the world. It is an accessory that lessens the burden of carrying your things with the use of your
back. Moreover, bags have become one of the important things that one should probably have,
especially students.
The general problem of this research is to identify the quality differences between Jansport
and Hawk of Senior High School students in St. John the Baptist Catholic School.

This study will focus on the perception of Senior High School Students about the quality
differences between Jansport and Hawk bags. The researchers will try to determine the quality
differences between Jansport and Hawk bags and which among the factors (quality, brand image
and affordability) has a great impact on the respondents in consideration of their motives to buy.
This research will cover ___ respondents both male and female students
The school chosen for his research project was St. John the Baptist Catholic School. Since
this school met the criteria for this study as the locale of the research. The study includes the
perception of Senior High School Students of St. john the Baptist Catholic School regarding the
quality differences between Jansport and Hawk bag for the year 2018-2019. Additionally, the
researchers will conduct a survey questionnaire to Senior High School Students as the main
instrument to gather important and relevant data needed in the study. In line with this, the data
gathered have a huge impact since they were used to see the result of the study.
This study is only limited to Senior High School students. Thus, Junior High School,
Elementary students of St. John the Baptist Catholic School and other schools that are not
experiencing this kind of situation were not used as informants.
The outcome of this study may provide information that may be useful to the business
owners, consumers and researchers.
Business Owners. The findings of this study may provide them an idea on where among
the factors to focus in improving them to have a higher sale. They can also be aware on the
differences of the quality of their bag compare to other bags in the market.
Consumers. The findings of this study may be given them the opportunity to share their
insights between the two bags that can benefit the companies on where they have to put further
effort in able to improve their product and increase their sales. In addition to that, it may provide
them vital pieces of information in line with the advantages and disadvantages among the two
bags.
Researchers. It may inspire them to do the same type of study. They can use this study as
a basis or reference in their feasibility study about the quality differences of Jansport and Hawk
bag. They can also use this research in improving the academic performance of students. They will
strive to look for more information on how social media can be a huge obstruction in students
learning growth and academic performance.

evidences in the conduct of the research. These reading materials were studied to give clearer and
in depth understanding of this paper.
This section presents the reviews of related theories, literature and studies which supports
and provides information to the present study. This chapter also presents the conceptual framework
and the definitions of terms.

Related literatures were observed to enhance this study and to serve as basis for the
researcher’s approach to the study.

media usage and the academic performance of the students.

Research Methodology
This chapter includes the discussions on the method and techniques used in this study,
sampling technique, the population and sample of the study, the research instrument used, the data
gathering procedure, data processing and statistical treatment and ethical consideration.
The study presents the correlational design method and techniques of research that seeks
to analyze data to find out the relationship between social media usage and the academic
performance of grade 12 students in St. John the Baptist Catholic School. The researchers used
survey questionnaire as type of instrument as the main tool in data gathering.
