THE INTERNET

VINT CERF AND ROBERT E KAHN

created the internet based off of a project

(ARPANET) which was made so that you

could communicate in the middle of a

nuclear war.

THE INTERNET USES BINARY NOBODY

INFORMATION IN THE FORM OF owns the internet, because

BITS, WHICH THE COMPUTER each internet service provider

READS AS "ON" AND "OFF" controls their part.

ELECTRICITY,
LIGHT, AND RADIO:
the three ways we send bits of

information over the internet

LAN VS WAN
LAN (Local Area Network) is a network that

connects a group of computers, usually close

together. WAN (Wide Area Network) connects a

group of LANs.

WHAT ARE PACKETS?

Packets are data from a website

broken up into little things called

packets that are directed by routers

and switches based on the IP

Address they are going to. They may

take different routes based on the

bandwidth of the route and how

congested it is

WHAT ARE SOME

INTERNET PROTOCOLS?
Internet Protocols are rules computers use

to communicate easily with each other.

Some protocols include Dynamic Host

Configuration Protocol, Hypertext Transfer

Protocol (HTTP), Transmition COntrol

Protocol (TCP), and Hypertext Transfer

Protocol Secure (HTTPS)

URLS AND DOMAIN

NAMES
The URL you type in is what tells

your computer to use "get" requests

to get the data for a website. It

uses "post" requests to send

information to the website. The

Domain Name is the "example.com"

part of the URL the Domain Name

IP ADDRESSES
Server (DNS). The Domain Name IP addresses are basically the mailing

Servers keep a record of IP address of a computer. They tell the

Addresses and translate them to server to send information back to

domain names. The server may also their specific address. The current

send cookies, bits of information system, IPv4, will eventually be

that tell the computer to do things replaced by IPv6 because it cannot

automatically (website logins, etc.) generate enough IP addresses for

everyone online

BITS
Information is sent along the
internet in the form of bits. The
bitrate is the speed at which bits
can be sent along a route. Latency
is the delay between the sending
and recieving of info.

SSL AND TLS

The Secure Sockets Layer and

Transport Layer Security are ways

that computers establish secure

connection with a server that has a

digital certificate so that they do

not have to fear getting hacked.

IETF
The Internet Engineering Task Force is a

group that develops and promotes voluntary

Internet standards

DNS SPOOFING
is a method of hacking where

corrupt data is introduced

A modem is a device that
connects your home or buisness causing an incorrect result (IP

to the network run by the provider address, etc.)

WIFI ROUTERS
A device that acts as a

router, or a gateway to

the internet, for certain

devices that are

connected to it
