Technology Integration in

the Classroom
My Beliefs
Technology integration in the
classroom is an essential element
to help students succeed and to
enhance their ability and
knowledge of learning. It also
creates differentiation in the
classroom and molds to the
different needs and abilities of
students
2
What is Technology
Integration?
- Use of technology resources in daily classroom
practices, and in the management of a school.
Ex: computers, IPads, cameras, social media,
smartphones
- Having the resources and opportunities to have
different tools in the classroom for daily use
- Using technology with core subjects to enhance
students learning on a daily basis
- What can you do with technology that you
would not be able to do without it?

3
Types of Technology
Integration!
- Online learning
- using online websites and other resources to enhance learning
Ex: Class Dojo
https://youtu.be/RYeKBOMr5Mo
- Blended classrooms
- having online and face to face instruction
Ex: What is blended learning video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paQCE58334M
- Project-based learning
- using technology to help solve real world problems
Ex: Link to a PBL/IBL lesson I created with my classmates in W200

Types of Technology
Integration Cont.
- Game-based learning
- incorporating games and simulations into learning (ex: kahoot, jeopardy, quizezz)
Ex: Link to a kahoot I made:
https://create.kahoot.it/share/2nd-grade-shapes/97d05d05-a496-4c38-a56f-22aaeeb156c6

- Web-based projects
- online research projects, webquests, individual and collaborative learning
Ex: Deforestation research project I completed with my Q200 group
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Xcr2tbxh3jxHEd0C6LTnYVXk9galHZW3QPv_-S
1Q_tk/edit?usp=sharing
- Instructional tools
- smartboards
Ex: Here is a video from a smartboard lesson that I found on YouTube and really enjoyed

Types of Technology
Integration Cont.
- Student-created media projects
- creating podcasts, youtube videos, digital storytelling
Ex: Phases of the moon video (production badge)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6ML_gH0axc
- Collaborative tools
- google docs, google slides, twitter, youtube
Ex: Twitter chat that I participated in for W200 on special needs in
the classroom, specifically dyslexia

Main Ideas
- Technology integration should be used to
enhance learning and teaching
- TPACK, SAMR
- Willingness to take chances on new
technology
- Good digital citizenship
- Personalize instruction and learning
- Should be used in appropriate situations
- Should be easily modified for grade level
and ability level

◇ Minecraft
◇ Virtual Reality
◇ Bee Bots/ Codeapillar
◇ Online Games
◇ Media/Social Media

Code.org
Code.org is a great way to introduce students to coding.
Depending on the grade level, there are different courses
students can take to enhance their coding skills. Each course is
specific to the grade level and ability of the students and are
there are a wide variety of games and apps for students to
learn.

10
Code.org Examples

A great way for students to learning

coding and the different aspects of
coding is through code.org. This site
allows students to work on there coding
skills through apps that are already
familiar to them. Some of these include
angry bird, frozen, and minecraft.

11
E-Portfolio
A way for students to promote their best work by using technology. This is a
great tool to build a resume for the future. It is also a fun and creative way to
share information with classmates and share ideas. In order to make an
E-Portfolio students also are able to learn skills about making their own
website and exploring different technological tools.

Minecraft - Having students read a book and then having
them create a minecraft world based off of the
setting of the story
- A way to promote creativity, collaboration,
and problem solving skills
- Engineering skills
- Learn fractions and counting skills

14
How Minecraft Can Be
Used
- Make history come alive by building famous
buildings and statues
While minecraft may not seem like
- Promote digital citizenship since students are able
the most education game, it
to access each others worlds
actually can be. Linked below is an

re-creating plots and settings from a book or
how teachers can use minecraft in

the classroom.

Virtual Reality

Travel and explore places

in the world for geography - Increases student
purposes engagement
- Experience different -Appeals to students
careers with different learning
- Explore the depths of the styles
Ocean and its wildlife - Eliminates the language
- Explore the human body barrier
- Visit museums around - Promotes creativity
the world through VR

17
Bee Bots/Codeapillars
Bee Bots and Codeapillars allow students to gain basic coding knowledge by
coding directions. This is a great tool for younger children who are just starting out
learning code. These tools also promote problem solving skills for students.
Examples of this can be seen in the images above. Linked below is an example of
how beebots move through mazes and how they are programed.

18
Online Games/Resources
Online games allow students to learn different skills depending on
their grade level and subject that they are focusing on. They can be
used to introduce new material and used to help master previous
material that has been learned. Some popular online learning
games include: Education.com, Scholastic.com, BBC.com, and
Funbrain.com.

Media/Social Media
- Educational media videos
- Great way to engage students
- Learning tool and reference for students
- Having students create their own videos allows them to
show off what they have learned
- Allows students to work individually or in a group
- Lets students show their creativity and video making skills
Ex: “I’m Just a Bill” Schoolhouse Rock

20
- Recognize that change needs to happen
- Think about the technology resources that are available
to you
- Ask yourself what technology resources have your
students already been exposed to
- Ask how the tools you decides to use will benefit your
teaching and student learning

How to -
-
1:1 with IPads or computers
Use the technology resource or tool yourself before
showing it to the students

Integrate - Allow a good chunk of time for introducing a new tool to

the students for the first time goals for the students
- Have a non-technology backup plan (we never know
Technology -
how technology will act!)
Promote digital citizenship right at the start

21
Why do we need
Technology Integration?
- Learning life skills such as:
- critical thinking
- problem solving
- creativity
- communication
- responsibility
- enhance student engagement and
participation
- Preparing students for future careers
- New and faster way of learning
- Accomodate students with different learning styles
and abilities
22
Overview
Overall, technology integration is important for the future
of education. Technology should be used to enhance
student learning and create a new and unique environment
for the students. Teachers should be excited about
technology in the classroom by thinking about what
technology is accessible, how engaged students are, and
what skills do they already have and need to know.
