The reality of SDN and NFV will be examined closely at this 3rd World Congress, after a
year of continuing market initiative, alignment and development.
It's now two years since the hopes, visions and ambitions of this industry SDN
transformative mission were so clearly articulated at the first Congress. What practical
steps have been taken in networks, how has customers' thinking evolved – and how far
have the solutions developed?
And it's two years since the Carrier NFV Project was announced to widespread acclaim:
what has been achieved in this first phase, where are the first deployment applications,
and how will the next phase advance to commercialisation?
KEYNOTES – SDN AND NETWORK VIRTUALISATION: A NEW PLATFORM FOR BUSINESS INNOVATION –
CONGRESS 1 & 2 (DIANA 1 & 2)
09:55 Open SDN & NFV: Bridging the Gap between Perception and Reality
Justin Dustzadeh | CTO & VP Technology Strategy, Networks | Huawei
Executive Council Member | Open Networking Foundation
The ONF SDN Solutions Showcase is the first global solutions showcase to include
leading SDN companies who participate in the ONF. The showcase will be divided into
themed demonstrations that address a wide range of applications, including: Carrier
SDN/WAN, DATACENTER SDN, CAMPUS SDN and TESTING & VALIDATION
The ETSI NFV PoC ZONE is an important opportunity to gauge industry prowess on NFV
implementation and to interact with the PoC participants to discuss their results, learn
about the challenges they faced and what they see as the next steps for NFV
implementation.
12:25 EXECUTIVE DEBATE – Building the Ecosystem for SDN and NFV
Axel Clauberg | VP, Aggregation, Transport, IP (CTO-ATI) & Fixed Access (CTO-FIA) |
Deutsche Telekom
Board Member | Open Networking Foundation
Moderated by:
Jerry Caron | Senior Vice President – Analysis | Current Analysis
An opportunity to discuss and debate key innovation topics under the guidance and
leadership of SDN and NFV Congress Advisory Panel members
1. ONF Executive
Dan Pitt | Executive Director | Open Networking Foundation
5. Does Open Source for NFV Service Innovation mean DevOps for Networks?
Murray Cooke | Network Computing Solutions Architect | Intel
Few subjects in telecom networking have commanded as much immediate attention and
senior support as NFV. And in the two years since announcement, the industry has been
filled with discussion and debate about the future prospects of this transformation.
NFV Forum gathers senior leaders aross the spectrum – from silicon and software to
platforms and global networks – to act as a reference point, examine progress to date,
and lay out the map for the coming year.
13:55 FORUM PARTNER KEYNOTE – ETSI ISG – A concept that fits to industry needs
Jørgen Friis | Chief Service Officer | ETSI
ETSI ISG service was developed already in 2006 but it took some time before the first
ISG QKD on Quantum Key Distribution was established in June 2008. Since then every
year an increased number of ISGs have been established, where today the ISG NFV is
the one attracting most participants.
The most recent in the series of ETSI ISGs is ISG MEC on Mobile Edge Computing and 3
more are in the pipeline for 2014 so this approach has really shown to fit with the needs
of today's industry. This is due to the quick and flexible creation process, the use of a
structure already in place and the mix of ETSI Member community and other
communities outside ETSI joining an ISG.
14:15 KEYNOTE – ETSI NFV ISG – Two Year Milestone; Look ahead to Phase 2
Steve Wright | Chair | ETSI NFV ISG
NFV & SDN Industry Engagement, Standards & Industry Alliances | AT&T
17:30 PANEL DEBATE – Building the Ecosystem for NFV, Role of Open Source
Moderated by:
Craig Matsumoto | Managing Editor | SDNCentral
14:20 Will SDN and NFV change the role of ICT service providers in a hybrid cloud
environment?
Peter Menzel | Senior Portfolio Architect | T-Systems International
16:20 Caches, caches everywhere: how NFV and SDN are enabling operators to build
more efficient networks
Patrick Richardson | Senior Product Manager | Akamai Technologies
To feed demand and address the reality of rapidly growing online traffic, network
operators are finding that a CDN solution is no longer an option but a requirement to
remain competitive. And while many operators are building a CDN from the ground up, it
is imperative that NFV and SDN approaches are evaluated in order to simplify networking
and reduce costs. This session will discuss how Akamai's early adoption of these
technologies has helped operators across the globe.
17:30 PANEL DEBATE – SDN & NFV: Iterative software development or silicon, which is
best?
Moderated by:
Cliff Grossner | Directing Analyst, Data Center, Cloud, and SDN | Infonetics Research
14:10 Joint OIF & ONF transport SDN carrier-hosted lab testing results
17:25 PANEL DEBATE – Practical steps for SDN in carrier network infrastructure
Moderated by:
Rick Talbot | Principal Analyst, Optical Infrastructure | Current Analysis
