Introduction

1.1 How to Use this Catalogue

Chapter 1 includes recommended terminal
configurations and required equipment for setting up
a terminal or a site. The information can be used as
check lists to make sure that all necessary equipment
is ordered.
The following chapters include ordering information
for the MINI-LINK C and C Micro products.
In combination with this Product Catalogue, the
following document may be useful:
• MINI-LINK C and C Micro Technical
Description, EN/LZT 110 145, contains the
technical details for the products in the
MINI-LINK C programme

The networks of today contain a high quantity of

small sites and more complex multi-terminal sites.
To meet this demand the MINI-LINK product range
includes both all-outdoor and split terminal
solutions.
An initial planning of the radio link connection will
give the terminal configuration, radio frequency,
antenna size, RF attenuation, etc. Part of this
planning is the calculation of the connection quality.
As a support for this type of calculation, the
MINI-LINK Performance and Availability
Prediction software is available for PC.
The traffic capacity required and the system
configuration (that is, unprotected) will give the type
of radio and access module to use. Consideration
will have to be taken to the distance between the
radio and the access module as well as supply
voltage to decide the need for a preconverter in the
access module.
The survey of the location and installation of antenna
modules, radio modules and access modules will
decide the need for mounting kits, earthing kits,
installation tools and cables.
The requirements on operation and maintenance of
the equipment will decide which maintenance and
operation tools to use, MINI-LINK Netman, MSM
for PC, pocket terminals or service telephones.

Introduction

Manuals and other documents required for the

installation, operation and maintenance of the
equipment are delivered together with the
MINI-LINK equipment, but can also be ordered
separately. Ericsson Microwave Systems AB offers
qualified service, training and support as well as
spare parts and repair.

Introduction

1.1.2 Terminal configurations

The MINI-LINK C programme includes products for
two different types of terminal configurations.

All-outdoor Terminal – MINI-LINK C Micro

The MINI-LINK C Micro terminal is a complete
outdoor unit. All connections are made outdoors.
The all-outdoor terminal can be AC or DC powered.

Figure 1-1. A complete MINI-LINK C Micro

all-outdoor terminal

Split Terminal – MINI-LINK C

The MINI-LINK C split terminal consists of an
indoor part and an outdoor part. This terminal type is
used when indoor access to traffic and DC power is
required.

1.2 MINI-LINK C All-outdoor Terminal

A MINI-LINK C Micro all-outdoor terminal

comprises the antenna, the radio module, and for
AC power supply, a C Micro kit.
A n te n n a

The all-outdoor terminal radio module and the split C M ic r o k it

terminal radio module are identical.
The C Micro kit comprises an AC/DC converter and
a backup battery, and it is used to power the radio
module.
The radio module may be integrated with the
antenna module or installed separately. Separate
installation requires a mounting kit and a flexible
waveguide kit to interconnect the radio module and
the antenna module. R B S 2 3 0 2

The MINI-LINK C Micro is specially designed for

micro-base-station applications. It is used in
transmission systems together with a micro-BTS Figure 1-3. MINI-LINK C Micro all-outdoor
terminal together with an
(Base Transceiver Station) such as Ericsson’s RBS 2302
RBS 2302.
In a typical application, the MINI-LINK is located
on the roof and the micro-BTS is fitted to the wall of
a building.
Please see chapter 6, Accessories, for more
information on system components.

Introduction

1.3 MINI-LINK C Split Terminal

A split terminal comprises an indoor access module
(Interconnection Module ICM-C), an outdoor radio
module, an outdoor antenna for integrated or
separate installation, a mounting kit, and a flexible
waveguide kit if separate installation is used.
The radio module is powered from an indoor power
supply. The split terminal radio module and the all-
outdoor terminal radio module are identical.
The radio module is available in four frequency
bands from 15 to 38 GHz. The antenna module is
available in different diameters from 0.3 m upwards.
Unprotected systems, 1+0 systems, use one radio
module at each side of the hop. The signals are
terminated at an access module or directly at the
operator’s interface equipment.
The radio module is fitted directly to the antenna
(integrated installation) or separately from the
antenna (separate installation).

Integrated Installation
The required equipment comprises:
• 1 radio module
Figure 1-4. A 1+0 configuration with
• 1 access module (ICM-C) integrated installation
• 1 antenna module (diameter: 0.3 or 0.6 m) with
mounting kit included
• 1 multicable for connecting radio and access
module

Separate Installation
The required equipment comprises:
• 1 radio module
• 1 access module (ICM-C)
• 1 antenna module (diameter: 0.3, 0.6 or 1.2 m)
with mounting kit included
• 1 multicable for connecting radio and access
module
• 1 kit for separate installation

A 120 Ω shielded twisted pair cable with a cross
section of 0.2 - 0.5 mm2 (AWG 20 - 24) should be
used for MINI-LINK C.
The cables used for MINI-LINK E equipment can
also be used for MINI-LINK C. However, connector
pins for the MINI-LINK E cable (AWG 26) must be Figure 5-9. Balanced traffic cable, 2 twisted
pairs
used instead of the connector pins delivered with the
MINI-LINK C and C Micro equipment. These
connector pins must be ordered separately.
The traffic cables are available with two or eight

Management System

7.1 Introduction
The MINI-LINK management system includes
software products for element management as well
as configuration and field support for the
MINI-LINK network.
MINI-LINK C equipment has built-in
microprocessor based functions for operation and
maintenance.
All operation and maintenance functions are
accessible using the MINI-LINK Service Manager Software Licence Agreement
(MSM) software or MINI-LINK Netman.

MINI-LINK Netman is the element manager of a
MINI-LINK network. MINI-LINK Netman
supervises the sub-networks from an operation and
maintenance centre. It can be used for fault
management, performance management and
configuration of MINI-LINK equipment.
MINI-LINK Netman and MSM can supervise
MINI-LINK C and C Micro, E and E Micro, and
MkII equipment. The SNMP Proxy Agent provides
an interface towards higher order management
systems.

7.3 MINI-LINK Netman

MINI-LINK Netman is a central management system
which can either be integrated with a Network
Management System (NMS) or used as a stand-alone
system. It handles functions such as fault C lie n t
management, performance data, commands,
configuration, and security management of
MINI-LINK equipment.

software licence. The clients require one client products
software licence per client/operator console.

Netman Server Licence

The Server Software handles access to the network
elements, the database etc. The Server Software
comes in one version which can be licenced to
support a number of hops, see the table below.
The Software Licence Agreement defines the
number of hops supported by the server software.
The software is the same for all supported network
sizes, which means that expanding to a larger
network is done by placing a new order for upsizing.
This routine is described in the Software Licence
Agreement.
