Homework Assignment Explanations

Session 7 – Studying the Bible Critically

This homework I choose because of the great significance I believe it had with continuing

the class and studying the bible. Reading the bible can sometimes be very difficult and had to

remember or keep in your mind as you are reading. It really makes you think about the many

ways to interpret the bible so it can benefit you in the long run. I used to get really frustrated

reading the bible because most of the time I just could never understand the wording or phrasing

of the verses and or chapters. With this assignment though it showed me the four types of context

and knowing the different types of criticisms helped me have a better understanding of the text I

was getting assigned to read.

Session 17 – Covenant and Law

This assignment was significant because it made us look at the different laws and codes in

the bible that we looked at in class. When reading and talking about things in class and during

homework it was very important to know the differences between the laws and codes so we can

separate the different governments and tribes of people. It also talks about the Ten commandments

and who they are addressing, and I never knew that they were targeted towards the people of Isreal

so learning about that was very interesting.

Session 23 – King Soul

With this homework I found it very informative. It spoke a lot about the literary tools and

growth that happened. This assignment that we had with this homework had me seeing a lot of

repettion and made me realize that throughout the bible there are similar stories to get an

overlapping theme or message across to its readers. It also shows a more in-depth idea and example
of the pro and anti-monarchic traditions, which show the different stages in literary growth in this

book. I also really enjoyed learning more about Saul and really understanding him as who he was

with the talk about his good and bad characteristics and what he did. This book also answered the

question of why is Iseral a monarchy which I enjoyed thinking about and finding the answer to.

Session 25 – David, Part 2

Choosing David Part 2 instead of One was kind of a hard decision because of the close

relationship but, I choose this one because of the specific details shown and given. I choose this

one because of the talk about Why God wanted to establish the Davidic dynasty and why he wanted

to pick David’s descendants to rule over Isreal. In this assignment we find out that God wants to

do this becasue he truly believes that David is pure and has a good heart, while David himself

wants to build God a house as well. It really talks a lot about how good of a king David really was

but makes sure not to leave out that that all goes down hill at the end signaling the end of his reign.

This assignment was just really interesting to see everything laid out.

Session 30 – Introduction to the Prophets

Choosing this assignment for my last one was really easy because the prophets are literally

such a big part of the Old Testament so why wouldn’t it be the best one to talk about. It also

mentions and talks about all of the major themes of the Prophets. I really enjoyed learning this

because it shows what standards the prophets were held too and everything they had to do. It made

some sense to why things were named certain things and that they were meaning to speak directly

to the reader to get their message across for the lord.
