LESSON PLAN (Comprehension)

CLASS: 8 SUBJECT: English


DURATION: 30/40 Minutes NO. OF STUDENTS: 25
TOPIC: Students SUB TOPIC: Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Learning Outcomes/ Objectives:

At the end of this topic students will be able to

 comprehend a factual and inferential text.


 deduce the meaning of the difficult words in the text.

Teaching Resources:
Plain A-4 size sheets.

METHODOLOGY Expected Time


Islamic Motivation: Dawat-el-Allah 2 minutes

Recapitulation: The teacher will ask the students to recount an anecdote 2 minutes
related to the childhood of any respected personality.
Brain Sorming: 2 minutes
The teacher will ask the following questions from the students:

1-What are the skills required to become a good leader?


2- How do you feel when you secure less marks as compared to your class
mates?
Warm up Activity: 3 minutes
The teacher will ask the students to
 study the given pictures.
 Jot down an experience under each heading and then discuss with
their seat mates.

Presentation: 9 minutes
The teacher will ask the students to read the passage silently. He will ask a
few general comprehension questions to check overall comprehension,
such as ‘What kind of a student do you think was Muhammad Ali Jinnah?’

The teacher will then ask a few questions to check that the students have
comprehended the different parts of the text, such as ‘How can we say that
Jinnah’s father was a tactful person?’

Discussion: 4 minutes
The teacher will then ask a few questions to check that the students have
comprehended the different parts of the text, such as ‘How can we say that
Jinnah’s father was a tactful person?’

The teacher will also ask questions to ensure that the students have used
the glossary where necessary.
Procedure: 5 minutes
Once the teacher is satisfied that the students have comprehended the text,
he/she will ask the students to attempt the questions (Q.1 to 8) given at the
end of the text individually.

While the students are looking for the answers, he/she may move around
and provide help regarding the paragraphs in which the answers can be
found.
Recapitulation: 2 minutes
The teacher will recapitulate the text by highlighting important aspects of
the text.
Evaluation: 6 minutes
The teacher will distribute the sheets among the students and will ask them
to attempt the question number 8 separately by jotting down some ideas on
the sheets provided before they read them out. The teacher will ask at least
five students to provide their responses.
Feedback and Follow up: 2 minutes
After receiving the responses of the students the teacher will identify the
key indicators in the text which reveal the greatness of Jinnah as a student.
Home Assignment: 3 minutes
Imagine yourself to be an interviewer who have been assigned the task of
interviewing one of Jinnah’s teacher. Now make a list of questions you
will ask in order to understand the personality of Jinnah.
