Lesson: Writing a Narrative Paragraph

Content Standards:
The learner realizes that information in a written text may be selected and organized to
achieve a particular purpose.

I – LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students are expected to:
1. Define narration/narrative as a mode of paragraph development;
2. Identify the elements of a narrative paragraph;
3. Appreciate the value of time through writing chronologically.
4. Write a narrative paragraph about their significant life experiences.

II – LEARNING CONTENT
Topic: Writing a Narrative Paragraph

Narration tells a story to make a point. It can be used in an anecdotal,
abbreviated way to illustrate a detailed, personal account of what happened.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Explore
a. Motivation
The teacher will show an animated movie entitled “Sweet Dreams” to the
students. Afterwards, the teacher will ask the following questions:
- How did you find the film?
- Did you understand the film without dialogue?
- Who were the characters?
- Where did the story happen?
- What was the most exciting part of the film?

b. Presentation
The teacher presents the lesson objectives and introduces the topic of the
day.

2. Firm Up
Lecture Discussion
- The teacher will show the definition and the steps of writing a
narrative paragraph.
- The teacher will give a short review on the elements of a short story, in
connection with narrative writing.
- The teacher elaborates the discussion by showing more examples on
paragraph writing. He will make use of the motivational video
presented as guide in writing a narrative.

Collaborative Learning Team


- The teacher will ask the students to proceed to their CLT groups. They
are going to make use of the CLT formation scheme.
- The students will be tasked to write a 5-5-5 narrative paragraph. They
must choose from the following topics:
a. The day my world turned black
b. My first time experience
c. My unforgettable birthday
d. My first day in senior high school
- The students will only be given 7-8 minutes in writing their narrative
paragraph. Afterwards, the group representatives will present their
outputs in class.
- The teacher gives his comments regarding the written output of the
students.

3. Generalization
- After the presentation, the teacher will ask the following questions to
the students:
1. What is a narration?
2. How are we going to write a narrative?
3. How can make use of our knowledge in narrative writing?

IV – SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION


The teacher will distribute a narrative worksheet to the students. The students
will only be given a 5-6 minutes to answer the activity.

V – ASSIGNMENT
The students will be asked to write a narrative about their PE performance task
last week. They shall submit their narratives to their Edmodo Accounts online.
