BIRTH PLAN

We have learned that unmedicated or natural childbirth is best for both mother and child. As first time
parents-to-be, we are very much excited and of course, we would want the best for our child.

We are glad that St. Lukes Medical Center Bonifacio Global City, Dr. Angela Bandola, our obstetrician, as
well as the birthing team of nurses are advocates of natural childbirth and are “mother-baby-friendly.”

We are very determined to have unmedicated labor and normal birth. We therefore request that the
birthing team consider the following:

1. Vaginal birth (except when complications arise)

2. Father must be present before and during labor and delivery.
3. During labor, I’d like music played (through smartphone), the room as quiet as possible, as few
interruptions as possible.
4. Eat and drink as approved by my doctor.
5. Fetal monitoring to be intermittent.
6. Vaginal exams only when necessary.
7. Refrain from shaving pubic hair.
8. No intravenous fluid, instead we opt for ice chips with salt or honey that would prevent
dehydration.
9. Monitor vital signs of both mother and baby upon admission to establish a baseline figure.
10. No drugs and medication to hide the pain, or to hasten or delay labor (as long as mother can
tolerate pain or as long as there is no complication to the baby)
11. The mother remains ambulant except when bag of water has burst.
12. The mother and coach may assume any position which the mother is comfortable with during
the active phase of labor.
13. Use of bean bag if birthing chair is not available.
14. Episiotomy and anesthesia only if necessary.
15. Father shall cut the umbilical cord only after it stops pulsating, if possible.
16. Immediate latching of baby to mother.
17. Rooming in of baby as soon as possible.
18. Breast milk only for the baby.
19. Documentation of childbirth by husband in compliance with hospital procedures.

We will of course, be flexible with all these points if a complication does arise. We trust that you will
inform us if any problems come up, so that we can discuss the choices to be made and come up with a
new plan.

Since this is a special event in our lives, we hope that you would be flexible enough to accommodate our
requests for a natural birth. We are very confident that with Dr. Bandola’s expertise, as well as the help
and encouragement from the nurses and the personnel that comprises the birth team, and most
especially by the grace of God, we would be able to push through as planned.

Respectfully Yours,

Clarita Emmanuelle R. Bicol Reynaldo H. Bicol Jr.
