Enough pentatonics, this licks is a bit more melodically sophisticiated and is based on the A
mixolydian mode and therefore following the harmony of the background more strictly. The
major 3rd in conjunction with the b7 make up the characteristic sound of that mode.
There’s an ascending diatonic sequence (diatonic meaning utilizing notes of the underlying
scale) in the third bar. I highly recommend you to learn it, transpose it, manipulate it
rhythmically, turn it around and so on and so forth. Just toy with it so you can start using it in
different contexts and making it part of your improvisational vocabulary.
