I. Objectives

At the end of the period, the pupils should be able to;

1. Identify the different solid figures.
2. Determine faces, edges, vertices of solid figures.
3. Create/Draw real world situations using solid figures.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Solid Figures

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

Greetings.

Good morning children! Good morning teacher.

B. Developmental Activities

a. Motivation

Look at this picture. What do you see? Children, balloons, party.

What occasion do they celebrate? A birthday party.

Have you ever gone to a birthday party? Yes, teacher.

Me too, Actually, I just came from a

birthday party. And let us look for the things that
I have got.

Did you wear party hat like this? Yes, teacher.

(Teacher brings out the birthday hat)

Did you blow some bubbles? Yes, teacher.

(Teacher blows the bubbles)

Have you received a gift? Yes, teacher.

(Teacher brings out a gift and opens it)

Did you light some candles? Yes, teacher.

(Teacher brings out the candle)

Did you play toys like these? Yes, teacher.

(Teacher is playing with a toy pyramid,
and ball).
b. Presentation of the Lesson

Our lesson for today is about Solid Figures.

Solid Figures are everywhere around us.
In this lesson, we will learn what solid figures
are, and we’ll explore some common
types of solid figures.

c. Development of the Lesson

What are solid figures? Solid figures are three-dimensional

objects. This means that solid figures
have width, depth, and height.

Anything with three dimensions (width,

depth, and height) is a solid figure.
These figures are common in the environment
around us.

Let us start with the components of a solid

figure. Most solids have vertex, edge and face.
COMPONENTS
A vertex (plural: vertices) is a point where
two or more lines meet.
An edge is a line segment that join two vertices
A face is any of the individual surfaces of a
solid object.

Let us look at these objects and try to figure

out what kind of solid figure they are.

Let us start with the gift’s box.

Does this gift box have width, depth and height? Yes, teacher.

What kind of solid figures does this gift box Cube, teacher.
belong?

What is a cube? A cube is a solid figure with six

flat faces/sides that are all square
with the same size.

How many faces does a cube have? Six faces.

How about its vertices? Eight vertices.
How about its edges? Twelve edges

Give me an example of a cube. Building blocks, rubik’s cube etc.

Next, we have here a toy pyramid. Pyramid, teacher.

This toy pyramid belongs to what
solid figure?

What is a pyramid? Pyramid is a solid figure that has a

flat base. Its sides are all triangles
which meet at the top called APEX.
Aside from faces, vertices and edges
there is also what we call base.

What is base? Base is a lower surface on which a

solid object stands. The bottom line
of a shape such as triangle or rectangle

How many faces does a pyramid have? Five faces.

How about its vertices? Five vertices.
How about its edges? Eight edges.

Give me an example of a pyramid. Pyramid of Egypt, rooftops, figurines

Let us proceed to the next object, the

party hat. It slightly looks like a pyramid
but it’s not.

To what solid figures does party hot belong? Cone, Teacher.

What is a cone? A cone is a solid figure that has a

Circular flat base on one end, and a
point at the other end where the
sides meet.

How many faces does a cone have? One face.

How about its vertices? One vertex.
How about its edges? Zero edge.

Give me an example of a cone? Ice cream cone, mega phone

Parking cone

Next, we have here a candle.

To what solid figures does candle belong? Cylinder, teacher.

What is a cylinder? A cylinder is a solid figure that has

two circular bases and one curved
side.

How many faces does a cylinder have? One face.

How about its vertices? Zero vertex
How about its edges? Zero edge.

We have here the last object, Which is

the bubble. I know we all enjoy bubbles
right?

To what solid figures does bubble belong? Sphere, teacher.

What is sphere? A sphere is a solid figure that

is round and has the shape of a ball.

How many faces does a sphere have? Zero face

How about its vertices? Zero vertex
How about its edges? Zero edges.

Give me examples of sphere. Ball, globe, earth, etc.

d. Generalization

What are solid figures? Solid figures are three-demensional

objects. This means that solid figures
have width, depth, and height.

What are the components of solid figures? Face, vertex, and edge

What are the common types of cube, pyramid, cone, cylinder, sphere
Solid Figures?

e. Fixing Skills
Match column A with column B. Write the letter of the correct answer on the blank provided
before the number.

A B

__ 1. Sphere a. a solid figure that has a flat base. Its sides

are all triangles which meet at the top called
APEX.

__ 2. Cylinder b. a solid figure with a six flat faces that are all
square with the same size.

__ 3. Cube c. a solid figure that has two circular bases and

one curved side.

__ 4. Cone d. a solid figure that has a circular flat base on

one end, and a point at the other end where
the sides meet.

__ 5. Pyramid e. a solid figure that is round and has the shape

of a ball.

f. Application
