Orientation Seminar 2019

The Law Student Government, as the


official student government of the Ateneo de
Naga University College of Law, spearheaded
an annual Orientation Seminar with the theme
“RESILIENCE: Designed to withstand” which
introduced the incoming first year Ignatian law
students to a new environment through talks,
skill-development and group dynamics. The
said event revolved in a five-day activity that
became an avenue for them to develop their
self-awareness, interpersonal skill and
camaraderie among their colleague as they
transverse into a new chapter of their lives.

On the first day of the event, the students were toured around the Ateneo de Naga
University by the assigned officers in order to be familiarized with the respective buildings
that they will be able to use and be of help in their whole stay in the said university. After
which, the introduction of the Dean, the Faculty, Ignatian Legal Apostolate Office, Law
Student Government, Law Debate Society, BarOps Committee on Student Affairs, and
EleCom commenced. Sign-up sheets from the aforementioned organizations were also
distributed to the students encouraging them to join such. Their first day ended with a
Getting to Know Activity entitled
“Pass the ball the fastest way” which
the students enjoyed. On the second
day, the students were so lucky as
Atty. Aimee T. Masalunga and Atty.
Ellen A. Ernesto- Darilay facilitated
an informative talk which revolved
around proper case digest training.
They even gave the students an
activity about the lessons they
delivered for the day in order to
evaluate and assess the students
about their knowhow in the said
training. Still, on the third day, Atty.
Aimee T. Masalunga and Atty. Ellen
A. Ernesto-Darilay were the one who
gave the students diverse law school tips like proper time management, reading different
cases, answering during recitations etc., in order for them to survive law school.

The Law student government expressed their deepest gratitude towards Atty.
Masalunga and Atty. Ernesto-Darilay by giving them tokens and certificate of recognition
for their meritorious contribution to the success of the College of Law Orientation Seminar
2019. On the fourth day, the event started with a meet and greet with the Law School
guidance counselor, Ms. Selene Torres, RGC. She explained the proper ways to cope
with anxiety and stress and made sure that she will be of help to the students whenever
they need someone to counsel them.
After which, Mr. Arnel Aivan Castro, a
CD Asia representative took over. He
introduced the students to the Law
School online resources which will
benefit them as they embark a new
journey in their post-graduate life. The
day ended with a library tour with the
Law School librarian, Ms. Alma Kay
Reyes. Ms. Reyes presented to the
students the different resources that the College of Law library has to offer like the
American Jurisprudence and Supreme Court Reports Annotated.

Finally, on their last day, a video presentation made by the Law Student
Government were presented to the students for them to have a gaze on a typical life of a
law student as well as the tips from our diverse upperclassmen which comprises of full-
time mothers, working, non-working students. Testimonials from upperclassmen
achievers who were Ms. Carla Peña (3rd Year) and Mr. Don Daryl Abergos (2nd Year)
were also delivered to inspire the incoming students to do well in their studies as it will
create a ripple effect for them and the legal profession. 👉And, Mr. Karlo Barde (3rd Year)
also conveyed a talk about PhilSAT
Review. Moreover, Ma’am Den Rayala
and Atty. Florante B. Nacor also took their
time and discussed the law school
administration concerns and gave a
meaningful welcome speech to the
students respectively. An open forum on
grading system, attendance and tardiness
policy, and law school performance
standard was also discussed by the
Associate Dean, Atty. Enee Abrenica.
Finally, Ms. Mary Cristine Longabela, the
Association of Law Students of the
Philippines- Governor introduced the
ALSP to the students hoping to have a collaboration for future law school events.
