EB00.10.190 /A

Foreword
This document must be associated with any request of implantation study for Pressing, Body work,
Painting, Mounting, DDIV, DIVD and the IDVU, sent to a supplier. Its purpose is to define the common
operating mode between Renault implanters and those of the suppliers, for the production of CAD files,
their use, and interchangeability.

In any case, before initiating any work, a contact is required between the Renault and the supplier
implanters, in order to define the terms of application of this document.
During this contact, the rules of construction of the model must be defined, in order to optimise
quality of these exchanges based on this document.

Note: for implantation studies of the building, refer to standard EM65.02.200.

1 Drawing file

1.1 Software used

The product used currently by Renault for Implantation CAD is:
 Microstation V8

1.2 File name

In general terms, use the name or numbers of the file transmitted by Renault, especially when it is
specified that it is a modification or update of this file.
In case of creation, the full name of the drawing file is in lower case and as explicit as possible, if not, a
text file (Excel type) details the name of the file, the file’s content, as well as the drawing number.

1.3 New file

In the case of a new file (creation), use as a prototype file (seed file) the empty file supplied by Renault.
As a general rule in pre-project phases, the 2D graphic representation is tolerated. However, the dgn file
must be of base seed3d regardless of the file contents.

1.4 Checking the file

Before transmitting the drawing file, apply or check the following points:
1 Remove all useless elements,
2 The file scale must be 1 : 1,
3 Check the dimensions,
4 Check the attributes of elements, levels, thickness, etc.,
5 Realistic rendering display in isometric view,
6 Display hidden parts processing (in several views: top, isometric)
7 Close useless views (see paragraph 4.1),
8 Display all levels used for each view,
9 Update good view attributes for all views,
10 Frame the drawing in each view (active fit),
11 Compress the drawing file,
12 Save the specifications, and record the file.

EB00.10.190 /A

2 Cell library
Except if specified, cells contained in drawing files transmitted by Renault must never be modified, either
by stretching, or by removing the complex status (Drop Cell) or by modifying the graph.

If a cell must be modified, it must be recorded in the 3D cell library, using a new cell name. The 6-
character name can be predefined by Renault. Anyhow, the graph must be modified according to the
rules established.

The cell library must be appended with the implantation file. It can be named after the implantation file,
with the extension “cel ”.

3 Data exchanges

3.1 Exchange formats

To be used: microstation V8
Particular cases: the following are authorised only for punctual exchanges as agreed with the
implanter in charge of the project.
 Autocad DWG extension (native format) in Autocad up to version 2002.
DXF extension as a last recourse
 Other software provided it is in the IGES or DXF exchange format, and to be studied
during the project with the Implantation UET concerned.
Summary drawings must be supplied to Renault under microstation V8 - 01.

3.2 Terms of file exchanges in the IT form

These exchange terms are sorted by order of preference.
1. By NUMERIS link
If the supplier is part of the list of secured networks connected with Renault through a
NUMERIS link (UNIX-SELFIX), using the GALIA V3 / FTP ODETTE protocol, the exchange is
ensured directly through this network (benefit: fast and secured).

2. By CD-ROM (650 or 700 MB capacity)

 CD-R (writable CD)
 CD-RW (rewritable CD)
Drawing files are supplied on a same CD-ROM.
The data is recorded on a CD-ROM according to standard ISO 9660. The recording type is
“single session”. The CD is closed.
The CD-ROM bears, in a permanent and non destructive way (ink felt), the following indications:
 Name of supplier,
 Recipient plant,
 Exact perimeter of the facility and/or mean(s) corresponding to the content of the CD-
ROM,
 Vehicle concerned (if required),
 MABEC-BED inventory number(s),
 CD-R creation date.
In all cases, a file with a detailed list of the contents of the media is included in the media.

EB00.10.190 /A

3 By email, if approved by the implanter in charge of the project.

An email link can be used to exchange data provided the size of the files, whether compressed
or not, does not exceed 1.5 MB.
The address of Renault staff is made up as follows:
firstname.name@renault.com Example: jacques.dupond@renault.com
or firstname.name-renexter@renault.com (for a provider)
4 By floppy disk (3.5” HD New and upper quality)
 Capacity: 1.44 MB - 135 tpi
 Format the floppy on the machine producing the copy
 File compacted in the ZIP format if required: zip version 7.
At each delivery, note systematically on the floppies the company name, date and format of the
floppy and append a detailed list of the contents of each floppy (names of files, description of
the content in plain text (size and dates optional).
Note: If this disk cannot be “read” by Renault, a new delivery will be required.
Data compression: A compression tool can be used to limit the size of data to be transferred. The files
can be made of “multiple volumes”, allowing their transmission through several email messages. It is
even preferable to generate an executable allowing automatic regeneration of these files, upon reception
without using any compression program.

4 Organisation of the graphic session used by Renault – Prototype file

4.1 Organisation of views

The organisation of the views for Renault users must be the following:
 View number: 1 top view
2, 3 and 4 in top view and normally closed
 View number: 5 view in elevation (front)
6 left view
7 top view
8 isometric right view

5 Reference of implantation drawing in 3D

Work using scale 1 : 1 in the Plant reference:
The supplier must comply with the positioning of facilities in X; Y; Z provided by the Meshing file
according to the layout plan supplied by Renault. Compliance with this positioning, then allows the CAD
user (supplier or Renault) to perform a coincident attachment of the different files.

EB00.10.190 /A

5.1 Levels of graphic representation of the different elements and object families
For practical reasons of use of implantation files, notably when they are used as reference, to edit
drawings and selective display of objects, levels of microstation must be used at best. Renault users have
therefore determined several categories of objects, according to their use in the implantation.

These levels are defined in the profession specifics chapters:

 Pressing specifics: chapter 11.
 Body work specifics: chapter 12.
 Painting specifics: chapter 13
 Specifics for general installations (framework, fluid, ventilation): chapter 14
 Specifics of mounting installations: chapter 15

5.2 Line thickness

The only line thickness values authorised are:
Current thickness: WT=0 fine line
WT=1 medium line
WT=2 thick line (only for large machines)
Exceptionally: WT=3 or 4 bold line (conveyor path, small size profile, etc.)
WT=5 highly bold line (origin, small diameter cylinder, piping, etc.)

5.3 Line styles

The line styles used most commonly are:
LC=0 SOL continuous
LC=2 MEDD short dot
LC=4 DOTD combined
LC=6 Double combined

5.4 Colours
The palette of colours, currently used by Renault, is: color_rn.tbl
This table must be present in the prototype file (proto_rn.dgn). To recover the latter, validate the colour
table menu for this file, and then save it as a name in local.
Numbers forbidden: yellow colours, as well as white.
Note: an adaptation can be made between Renault and the supplier after the first drawing prints.

5.5 Construction guidelines – Implantation file.

Do not represent details useless for the implantation (nuts, holes, mechanical details, etc.). This
point can be discussed during the contract initialisation meeting to specify the level of details
acceptable.
Use of the third dimension (Z): use all construction aid tools made available by microstation, such as
ACS, locks, display depths, etc.
Work using scale 1 : 1
The drawing must use a maximum number of microstation “primitives”:
 Basic or complex polygons, skewed lines.

Use the “Solid” option in 3 dimensional construction.

© RENAULT 2004 Origin: PEGI - Renault Page: 9 / 26

EB00.10.190 /A

Prefer the use of projection and revolution surface in 3 dimensional construction:

 Place parallelepiped, Place cylinder, Projection solid, Revolution solid.

Do not remove the surfaces used as a base for projections.

A wire representation (text, symbol, etc.) pushed on a surface must be offset by a few millimetres above it
to ensure it can appear when processing hidden parts.

Sequencing complex elements must be avoided. This is reserved to the construction of surface with
connecting filets in an arc of circle.

Avoid small size arcs of circle. Use chamfers preferably at connecting filets.

Avoid the use of “Motifs”, hashing, as well as “Filled” surfaces.

Use “B.Spline” only when they are indispensable.

If isolated points are represented, highlight them using a clear colour, and a minimum thickness of 3 mm.
The minimum size of elements must be:
 Filet radius: 50 mm.
 Length of a vector: 20 mm.
 Diameter of a cylinder: 50 mm.
Do not maintain construction lines (Attributes of elements: “Construction” category), except those
determining characteristic points indispensable for operation.

5.6 Dimension
Use preferably associative dimension using arrows open at the ends.
The height must allow printout at 1/200 of 2 mm minimum

5.7 Texts
Use preferably Windows fonts, or those provided by microstation.
The fonts recommended for microstation version J bear the following numbers: 0; 1; 2; 3; 42; 43; 105;
106; 107 and 108
The height must allow printout at 1/200 of 2 mm minimum

6 Creation of graphic cells

Graphic cells are called ‘Objects’ by Renault
The graphic of each object is created using the drawing tools of microstation 3D, and according to certain
rules aiming at standardising the representation and facilitating the use of different objects in cell libraries.
These rules are defined below.

6.1 Representation style

There are 2 types of graphic representation of a cell:
 3D cell: in 3 Dimensions.
 2D cell: in 2 Dimensions.

2D or 3D representation can be used according to the needs of the study.

The creation of objects in shared cells must be prohibited.

© RENAULT 2004 Origin: PEGI - Renault Page: 10 / 26

EB00.10.190 /A

6.2 Origin of the object

The origin is the characteristic point of the object (rotation centre, intersection of axes, part position
reference point, etc.). Its position is usually at its geometrical centre.
Its function is to be used as an anchoring point for the cursor upon placing or moving. The coordinates of
the object are those specified in respect of this point.

The microstation origin (cell recording) is confused with this point.

The origin is the first point in the graphic cell. It is defined with the following graphic attributes in the
standard objects catalogue or Renault parameters:

Symbols:
 Level LV=61 unplotted graph
 Colour of the element CO=3 Yellow
 Line thickness WT=5
 Line style LC=0 - SOL Continuous line
Category: Primary.
Properties: Solid, hookable, view dependent.

6.3 Axes
All axes of the different cells are defined on levels according to the type of object:
 Axes of symmetry
 Rotation axes
 etc.
Symbols:
 Level: Defined in next paragraph
 Colour of the element: According to appreciation
 Line thickness: WT=0
 Line style: LC=4 - DOTD Combined line
Category and properties: ditto Origin of the object (§ 6.2)

6.4 Deflections
All deflections of the different cells are defined on levels according to the type of object:
 Door deflections,
 Gyration areas,
 Maximum displacement traces,
 Footprints of removal, servicing,
 etc.
Symbols:
 Level: Defined in next paragraph
 Colour of the element: CO=0 White
 Line thickness: WT=0
 Line style: LC=2 - MEDD Dotted line
Category and properties: ditto Origin of the object (§ 6.2)

EB00.10.190 /A

7 Reference files
With each implantation, Renault delivers the associated reference files.

Within Renault, as reference files are located on a remote server, the partner must install copies of these
reference files in the same directory as the active file, in order to recover the attachment of these
references without handling operations.

The contents of these files must never be recopied into the active file supplied to Renault, but all
reference files used by the supplier must be delivered to Renault together with the active files.

8 Detail of installations and files

ONE FILE PER TRADE.
The files provided to Renault must include only the manufacturing installations and means.
All other data must be delivered in other files, with one file per trade [layout plan, civil engineering (grid,
posts), fluid networks, metallic frameworks, overhead conveyors, general handling, aeraulic file, etc.]

9 Drawing numbering
Prior consultation with the different parties concerned to establish appropriate numbering.
See trade specifics

10 File handover
The conditions, schedule and lead times are defined in the chapter on trade specifics:
 Pressing specifics: chapter 11.
 Body work specifics: chapter 12.
 Painting specifics: chapter 13
 Specifics for general installations (framework, fluid, ventilation): chapter 14
 Specifics of mounting installations: chapter 15

© RENAULT 2004 Origin: PEGI - Renault Page: 12 / 26

EB00.10.190 /A

11 Pressing specifics
If the supplier is under Autocad, he must use the same methodology as Renault for file detail. He can
maintain his own working methods, provided they are defined, constant and applied, and that rules are
transmitted to Renault upon accepting the contract, allowing Renault to define a translation file providing
a correspondence between the levels, character fonts, colours, thickness of lines, etc.

11.1 Levels used for the pressing perimeter.

The contracting company can, if expressing the need, use more levels than the number allocated to it in
the list, provided it complies with the number of levels required, and the graphic representation in this
same level.
Example: if for a conveyor the representation requires 10 levels, its main outlines MUST be represented
on level 35 (according to list). The other 9 levels can be chosen by the supplier, but they MUST be
EDITED.

* Are considered as general equipment the self-standing elements in a pressing workshop (flipper,
packing machine, washing facility, etc.).
If several levels are required to represent these elements, it is possible to use the free levels 12 and 13.

11.2 Pressing file handover.

To improve responsiveness during the contract, sending, punctually and exceptionally, files in the
formats DWG, DXF or IGES, by subcontractors is authorised. In this case, the working rules must be
used, and adapted to those described in previous chapters.
If using the AUTOCAD software, files must first be purged and corrected before saving in version
2002.
Do not use functions specific to this software.
Example: Circular references, blocks, blocks with attributes, %%D, %%U, etc.
Other important points: only the object space must be used, do not use overlay 0.
If the following points are not observed, Renault cannot ensure compliant recovery of the files, and hence
may consider having received nothing.

NEVERTHELESS, AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT, THE DIGITAL FILES CAN BE TRANSMITTED
TO Renault UNDER THE FOLLOWING THREE DIFFERENT FORMATS:
 DGN (MICRO-STATION)
 DXF
 IGES.
ON CD-ROM MEDIA IN TWO COPIES.

13 Painting specifics
13.1 Levels used for the painting perimeter
The levels used for painting are common implantation levels (paragraph 12.1.1) notably for objects
configured, existing drawings. However, to facilitate file updating and consolidate certain items, painting
has created a specific levels table with the first letter “P”, which can be used in addition to the common
level table.
Level classification by number

The use of additional levels is possible only after discussion with Renault’s implanter.
The contracting company can, if expressing this need, use more levels than the list allocated for painting,
provided it complies with the names of levels required, and graphic representation within this level.

Example: if for a conveyor the representation requires 5 levels, its main outlines MUST be represented in
level 10 (according to list). The other 4 levels can be chosen by the supplier, but they MUST be
SPECIFIED.

13.2 Painting file handover

As soon as project initiation, even during the consultation period, the layout plan of the installation or any
other plan required for the implantation must be provided to the supplier, allowing him to use our
reference files to facilitate file recovery work at the end of project.
The detail of the project must apply the following principles:
 Each physical level of the installation must be represented and this, on separate files:
Example: Level 0.00 on file #1 and level 6.740 on file #2.
 The supplier provides a file with the layout plan and files per type of installation:
 A building file, including the meshing, civil engineering, walls…
 A process file with the cabs, conditioners, TS tanks, …
 A handling file with the tables, conveyors, elevators, etc.
Only cross-sections can be consolidated in a single and same file.

EB00.10.190 /A

Throughout all project phases, the drawings are exchanged for validation in the native format of
the drawings, to consolidate the drawings of all suppliers (see standard EM32.03.045)
At each step of the project, and before reception, all drawings are transmitted to the painting implantation
UET, which then offers his agreement to the project leader for the implantation part of the reception.
13.2.1 Particular case of suppliers using Autocad by Autodesk
Any supplier using the AUTOCAD software must apply the work methodology defined previously, and
also apply file details. His specific working methods can be used, provided they are defined, constant,
and the rules transmitted to Renault upon signing the contract, and if agreed by Renault’s implanter. This
ensures that Renault can define a translation file ensuring correspondence between the levels, character
fonts, colours, line thicknesses, etc.
13.2.1.1 Autocad version
Any supply of “.dwg” drawing files saved in a version after version 2002 is subject to approval by
the implanter in charge of the project.

13.2.1.2 Prescriptions for producing “.dwg” files

The supplier using the Autocad format must specify the following upon the first initialisation meeting of the
project:
• the units used: decimal, scientific units, architectural or technical, etc.
• supply the table of colours used,
• open our files, and import theirs on top, in order to maintain the frame of our drawings.
Each file must correspond to a single drawing or plate. Indeed, in a same format, it is for example
forbidden to represent the detail drawings of several parts, or several subassembly drawings.
Also the use of “tabs” to represent several drawings in a same file is forbidden.
When saving a drawing, any use of a file not included in the basic version of Autocad, and which does not
allow rendering the entire drawing by Renault upon the mere opening of the “.dwg” file, is forbidden.
Examples:
 Files inserted in “external reference” (.xref) are forbidden (make a “copy/paste” if required),
 External files inserted in “framed image” (Logo, digitised drawing background, …) are forbidden.
13.2.1.3 Scale
The entire drawing is always plotted at scale 1, and this, in the “object space”, from the file
supplied by the Renault implanter.
The “paper space” or “presentation” is reserved to formats, cartridges, and frames.
If made necessary by representation (e.g. part larger than the drawing format), use the “presentation
space” to adapt the scale of the part to the drawing format (A0, A1, A2, A3).
Dimensions must use a dimension style with scaling for part representation. The text is also scaled.
The scale used to represent the part in the drawing format chosen is indicated in the cartridge.
On the other hand, if certain views have different scales, the scale must be specified on each of them.
Note: the maximum drawing with in printing is 841 mm (width of A0).
13.2.1.4 Character font
The name of the character font file recommended is “isocp.shx”. When using another character font, only
those included in the basic version of Autocad are accepted.

EB00.10.190 /A

13.2.1.5 Lines
Compliance with standard ISO 128-24 and choice made by Renault on the “line group” (see paragraph
5.2 and 5.3)

13.2.1.6 Precautions to apply before saving “dwg” files

Saving a “.dwg” drawing file is performed after having taken the following precautions:
 Check that no layer is “frozen” (all layers must be visible),
 Check that no object or graph is represented outside the format limits of the drawing,
 Perform an “extended zoom”, in order to have the full drawing format when reopening this file,
 Insert the “Xref” in the file,
 Use the “clear all” command (clear all lines, blocks, etc. loaded, but not used).
Blocks are authorised but provided they are not too large, example:
 A Tunnel surface treatment block is forbidden
 A conditioner block including the fan block, filter stage, and burner is authorised.
 This detail must be validated in exchanges between implanters.

13.2.2 Other software from other CAD systems

For suppliers not using Autocad by Autodesk, but another CAD software, native files are supplied in their
original format, and this, only if agreed with the Renault implanter.
