CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION OF DATA, INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS AND ANALYSIS

This chapter describes the analysis of data followed by a discussion of the

research findings. The findings relate to the research questions that guided the study.

Data were analyzed to identify, describe, and explore the effect of eco-enzyme as

cleaning agent. Data were obtained from self-administered observations of the

researchers.

Research question number 1,

What is the effect of eco-enzyme as cleaning agent?

All samples were placed in the same location and subject to same room temperature.

There are two sets of samples in order to give comparisons between the effect of both

solution to be used as cleaning agent. One set used the fermented eco-enzyme and the

other set used a commercialized product (Breeze, powdered). Sample 1 is the

comparison between cloths with stains from ink of pen. Sample 2 is the comparison

between cloths with stains from leftover food waste. Sample 3 is the comparison

between cloths with stains from resin (from banana tree). Sample 4 is a comparison

between cloths with stains from coffee. Sample 5 is a comparison between cloths with
stains of ketchup. The samples were left for about 24 hours in their respective

containers airtight.

The following table shows the results of the effect of eco-enzyme and the

commercialized product as cleaning agent and observations from the researchers.

Research question number 2,

What is the significant difference between eco-enzyme and inorganic cleaning agent as

cleaning solution?

There is significant difference between eco-enzyme, the fermented solution, and

an inorganic cleaning agent which can be commercialized products as detergent or

bleach as cleaning agent.

The cleansing property of eco-enzyme can obviously refer to the properties of

vinegar (carboxylic acid group). Vinegar is a fermentation of ethanol which consists of

acetic acid (CH3COOH), water and trace amount of other chemicals. Starch and sugar

are the main ingredients for making eco-enzyme and CH3COOH can be derived from

them. The study uses a pineapple-derived detergent that yields to natural organic acids,

natural enzymes and biosurfactants which are the substances that break down dirt and

stains. In addition to it, pineapple peelings contains protease which are common to all

commercial cleaners. In this study, the eco-enzyme is a less potential cleaner than the

powdered detergent used. However, the solution from the fermentation, is more organic

than the latter. Most commercial or inorganic products use or add chemicals to the

products which are harmful to humans.

Research question number 3,

What are the other products of eco-enzyme aside from being cleaning agent?

Eco-enzyme, at reasonable concentration, can function as the following.

Researches and studies are conducted as to the product obtained from eco-enzyme.

1. Agriculture— Organic fertilizer and Herbicide

Growing plants without using chemical fertilizers protect the environment. Eco Enzyme

is very useful for agriculture.Helping plants to grow well

Eco Enzyme can enhance photosynthesis. As a result, plants will get more nutrients

and their roots can absorb more air. In addition, ozone, which is emitted by Eco

Enzyme, can help plants grow better and faster.

It Builds fertile soil. Eco Enzyme is a natural fertilizer. It can make a barren land fertile.

Repelling pest without using pesticides. By spraying the mixture of Eco Enzyme with

water on the lawn will reduce insect and it is a natural herbicide.

2. Livestock farming— Air purifier and Air freshener

Using Eco Enzyme to clean areas for keeping livestock can make them become
healthier. It aids to maintaining cleanliness as it can be natural air freshener. Spraying it

on the floor of the shed for keeping animals can keep flies and foul odor away. As a

result, domestic animals will have a cleaner place to live. Also it helps improve animal

health by Adding Eco Enzyme to food and water for feeding domestic animals which

boost their immune system and improve the quality of poultry or meat.

3. Drainage system—Cleaning Pipes and Water

Eco Enzyme improves drainage and clean wastewater from factories and farms by

pouring Eco Enzyme or its residues into sewers, cesspools and ditches, it prevent pipes

from being blocked, purify wastewater and ultimately clean rivers and oceans.

4. Diluted Eco Enzyme can be used to eliminate odor, mold, dirt and oil cleaning floor,

air conditioners, toilets, exhaust fans etc. In addition, pests such as flies, mosquitoes,

rats and cockroaches will become fewer with the use Eco Enzyme as Insect repellent.

5. Eco Enzyme can decompose and eliminate microorganisms that are harmful to us.

That is why it can be used in personal hygiene by using Eco Enzyme to take bath, wash

hair and do laundry.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY,CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter looks at the findings, conclusions, recommendation and suggestion for

further research.

SUMMARY

The solution used in the present study indicates that higher dilutions of eco-

enzyme resulted in a more acidic solution that can be used as cleaning agent. The

result also indicated that the cleansing property of eco-enzyme has a significant

difference to the performance of the commercialized cleaning product in terms of their

effectivity. In the study conducted, the Eco-enzyme is not as effective as the powdered

detergent. The fermented solution has a less potential in cleaning the stains on the

cloth, thus resulting to less effect in the experimentation process. The chemical

components of the eco-enzyme functions as the cleaning agent are the production and

formation of vinegar and its acetic acid and the existence of protease, as the common

component of cleaning agents. There are other products that can be obtained in

different concentrations of eco-enzyme. Due to some unclear data presented and tests

conducted, further study is required in order to provide more detailed explanations on

how it reacts with the cloth and the stains involved.

CONCLUSION

From the analysis, it was found out that ;

From the study, the eco-enzyme produced was acidic with pH level of 3.76.The

results, as indicated using the fermented solution, shows, that it cannot thoroughly clean

up the cloth or the fabric used in the experimentation. However, the removal of dirt and

stains on the cloth shows the partial potential of the solution as cleaning agent. Further

studies can be published in the future for more detailed tests and results to obtain.

The eco-enzyme nearly has the chemical components of a cleaning agent.

RECOMMENDATION

On the basis of the present study, some recommendations for future

researchers are drawn as follows ;

Instead of using harmful cleaning products such as Chlorine (CLOROX), eco-

enzyme can be the alternative bleach.

However, detailed tests in utilizing the accurate ingredient to be used specifically

for cleaning laundry must be done. Further study would be required to provide more

accurate and elaborated explanation in the formulation of the fermented solution.

Factors such as the length of time in producing the fermented solution must be

observed.
In a study to be published in future, the effect of eco-enzyme as cleaning agent

is explored. More importantly, characterization of the eco-enzyme to reveal its

constituents is a critical step for any future studies.

The researchers suggest producing more acidic solution than the previous

product used in this study to perform more effective cleaning property.
