Setting up of a dedicated toll free National Helpline across the country is of the utmost importance and would
provide relief to numerous distressed road users in not only saving their lives but also helping them in other

emergencies on the Highways.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recognizes the importance of ensuring safe travel on National
Highways as these roads are often characterized as high speed, high volume roads with maximum number of
fatalities and injuries in accidents and the fact that timely treatment of the injured will save many lives as
well as for reporting of information like obstruction of highways due to fallen tree, dharna, flat tyre, bad road
condition etc. NHAI had assigned the work for establishment of the Helpline using 4-digit toll free number
“1033” to IHMCL.

IHMCL decided to establish six call centers in different geographical zones- East, West, North-East, South,
Delhi and Chandigarh(State-wise jurisdiction of the ones is at Annexure-I.

Salient Features

A single 4-digit Toll Free Universal Access Number (UAN) “1033”

Single point of contact for public in case of accident or other emergencies on National Highways.
Single point contact for reporting issues related to National Highways e.g. obstruction of highways due
to a fallen tree, dharna, flat tyre, bad road condition etc.
Immediate help to road accident victims during the golden hour by making available ambulance,
treatment facilities and cranes to remove wrecked vehicles from the accident site.
Professional call center agents with 24×7 availability.

Current Status
The Helpline has already become operational in South, West, Chandigarh and Delhi Zones from call
centres located in Mysore, Ahmedabad, Mohali and Gurgaon.
Bids received in respect of East and North-East Zones are under process.
Contact details in respect of hospitals, Ambulances, Trauma Centre, Police Patrol,Control Room, Toll
Plaza etc along National highways are being collected.

Integration of Helpline 1033 with the Scheme of

“Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims”
MoRTH has launched pilot projects for “Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims” on the following three
highway stretches:

Gurgaon-Jaipur section of NH 8
Mumbai-Vadodara of NH 8
Ranchi-Rargaon-Mahulia of NH 33

If and when a pan-India scheme for cashless treatment of road accident victims on the national highways is
implemented in the country, the unique helpline-1033 will seamlessly integrate into the said scheme.
