SELF CONCEPT
Self-concept is of three types-:
 Real self – It talks about what we are. According to me, I am a person
who is a social person, quick learner and a caring person.
 Ideal self –It talks about what we want to be. According to me,I want to
learn from my mistakes and take interest in learning new things.
 Social self–It talks about what we portray our self and others think
about ourselves. People around me consider me as a confident,
hardworking person and socially interactive person.
There was an activity conducted in the class in which we were divided into the
group of 5 or 6 people. Person first had to write something and then pass it on to
the next person and that person without seeing anything had to picture it related
to that which was written. And this cycle continued till the last person. And in
the end the thing written by the first person was completely distorted in the end
when he got that sheet back it had no resemblance with the thing written at the
start. I have written that ‘I am a team player’ and in the end I got ‘A bunch of
people walking on road ‘.
From this activity I learned that what the person thinks or perceives is
completely different from what the other person thinks but both may be right at
their respective point of view. Partially your real self and social self can match
but not totally. If your real self is aligned with ideal self then we have a peace of
mind otherwise distress.

JOHARI WINDOW
It is a technique which assist people to better understand their relationship with
themselves and others. It is a tool which helps us to know about ourselves, to
know that what others think about us,what we know about ourselves and what
others don’t know about us.
I took the test of Johari window and also asked my friends to take that test
keeping me in the context. After completing the test, I find out the
characteristics which I think about myself and what my friends think of me. It
helped me in finding the areas which are known to me and to the other people,
which are known to me not others, known to others but not to me and known to
neither of us.
 The characteristics which I know about myself and other people also
know about me are that I’m caring, friendlyand extroverted. The area
which is known to both is known as the Public Area. 33% of the people
think that I’m caring. 22% think that I’m extroverted and 22% think that
I’m friendly.
 The characteristics that people told me but I was not knowing about
myself were adaptable, brave, calm, clever, complex, confident,
energetic, giving, happy, helpful, intelligent, knowledgeable, logical,
loving, modest, observant, organized, patient, reflective, self-assertive etc.
I was surprised to find out that 11% of the people find me complex. 44%
of the people think me that I’m confident,33% of the people think that
I’m happy, 44% of the people think that I’m helpful and knowledgeable,
33% of the people think that I’m observant and sensible and 44% of the

myself but others know is known as the Blind Spot.
 According to the test there were three characteristics which were known
to me but not to others. They are accepting, bold and cheerful This area is
known as the area of Private Concern.

It is defined as an ability to understand and handle one’s own and other’s
feelings and emotions.
There was an activity conducted in the class in which we were asked to fill
emotional intelligence questionnaire. After filling that questionnaire we were
asked to choose 3 people from different professions and ask them to fill
emotional intelligence questionnaire separately. Now we have to compare our
emotional intelligence with the emotional intelligence of people from three
different profession.
When I took emotional intelligence test I found that my score is 265 and it
means that I’m high on emotional intelligence. It means I’m not a perfectionist.
I know how to balance work and play. I embrace change. I don’t get easily
distracted. I’m self-motivated and focus on positive.
Now I’m going to compare my emotional intelligence with three different
professionals:

The total score came out to be 215 that is an engineer is average on emotional
intelligence. His stress management and adaptability are low as compared to my
emotional intelligence. He can increase his emotional intelligence by controlling
his feelings of failure, anger and embarrassment.

help of all my results in the test given above.
From Johari window I got to know the qualities which were not know to me and
what people think about me. Few people think that I’m a complex person which
came as a surprise to me.
On the basis all those activities and results of all the personality traits I got to
know that I was ESFJ (Extroverted Sensing Feeling and Judging).
Things which I want to improve in myself are that I am too much extrovert and
I’m very emotional which sometimes backfires. I want to improve this thing in
myself so that I can become strong in this area.
And through FIRO-B what I got to know was that I’m a social and democrat
person. I got high emotional intelligence which means I am good at handling
stress.
