ACTION Research: A Tool for Teaching the Millennial Learners

I. Brief Description:

The seminar-workshop an end opportunity for teachers that can make a difference in their
teaching practice, connect to their lives as teacher and ultimately improve teaching and learning
in their own classrooms. In the face of heavy time pressure and other demands of teaching, one
answer is to conduct an action research. The goal of action research is to investigate a self-
selected issue on your own milieu to affect positive changer in teaching and students learning.

During the course of this workshop-seminar, the participants will design one research
project of their choice. For CPD compliance, a proposal will be required. The programme
includes interactive lectures, discussion forum and collaborative activities.

II. Rationale:

The DepEd issued DepEd order no. 42 S 2017, The Philippine Professional Standards for
Teacher (PPST). The standards are explicit on what teacher should “know, be able to do and
value to adhere to competency, improved student learning outcomes.”. Domain 5 of the PPST is
on assessment and ____________ can include research and use it to improve practice and student
learning. Thus, it may also encourage teachers to conduct research integral to teaching. The
primary goal of this academic activity is to _______________ in teacher the love for and
sustained interest in doing action research.

III. Objectives:

1. To respond to the call for CPD in line with DepEd Order No. 42, S. 2017.
2. To use action research as a framework for systematic inquiry in the teaching practice.
3. To understand and apply evidence based or research on a research based teaching as a
teaching learning strategy.
4. To hone one’s skills in doing action research
5. To meet the challenges of the 21st century in practising flexibility and critical thinking in
solving problems and making decisions.

1. Formulate 3 possible problems you may want to do in action research.


2. Choose one and write your statement of two problems.
3. Give reason for your choice and what your research will contribute to the body of
knowledge to the field.
4. Do a write up on the design, methodology, and instrumentations and data gathering
procedure of your prospective paper.
