B1 PROJECT TASKS SECOND TERM

UNIT 5 AND 6

ACTIVITY 1: INTERVIEW YOUR PARTNERS TO DECIDE WHETHER HE/SHE

IS A HEALTHY OR UNHEALTHY PERSON.

1. Describe what you have in your refrigerator. Use countable/uncountable nouns.

Use QUANTIFIERS, OR EXPRESSIONS FOR MEASURE AND
CONTAINERS.
2. Make questions with the information from page 45. Then interview your
partner. E.g.

In his fridge he has a pound of meat, a carton of eggs, half pound of cheese, a jar of
ketchup and a tub of margarine. He also has some tomatoes and onions. He has like
6 cartons of milk, a loaf of bread because he likes sandwiches. He has a package of
jam and less than a pound of hamburger meat.
He loves chocolate, so he had a little chocolate that he had as a treat.
He doesn’t have lots of stuff because he’s always busy and don’t have enough time
to cook so he’s always eating outside.

3. ACTIVITY 2: Interview your partners to decide whether he/she is a healthy or

unhealthy person.

• Complete the missing information with quantifiers, or expressions for measure and
containers.
Carlos eats 5 meals a day because he needs food to be happy. He thinks he should eat
fewer French fries and less junk food because he eats junk food more than twice a
week.
His doctor recommends him to eat fewer processed food because he needs to lose
some weight. When he is full, he can’t stop eating, because he really enjoys food.
Carlos puts 2 cups of sugar in his coffee, because he doesn’t like coffee without sugar,
he prefers sweet coffee. He eats like 2 bags if potato chips a week and he drinks like
2 bottles of water every day.
In his refrigerator he has a bottle of ketchup, but he doesn’t have a jar of peanut butter
or preheated French fries because he’s trying to eat fewer French fries.
He enjoys eating empanadas, but he doesn’t think he should eat fewer empanadas
because he’s fine with his weight.
He drinks like 3 or 4 cans of soda a week and usually he takes a little chocolate as a
treat, because he really likes chocolate. When he cooks he doesn’t use much oil to
cook.
He goes to the gym 4 days a week.
I think my partner is an unhealthy person because he eats junk food frequently. He
should eat less fat and fewer hamburgers and empanadas. In my opinion, he should
avoid eating too much fat. In my view, he should drink more juice and water. He
should eat more vegetables and fruits to be healthy. He should worry more about his
health and less about studying, because he is always studying. Although he goes to
the gym frequently, he should worry more about what he eats because diet contributes
a lot in keeping you fit.

Activity 3: Come up with ideas to develop healthier eating habits. Create a healthier menu
and a healthier life style, which promotes a better life. Use future with will and going to, or
present continuous to talk about plans and to find better ways to manage your life in terms of
food and diet.

Ex:

I would prefer to eat less sugar. I’m going to stop eating desserts after lunch.

I’m going to the gym with my mom. I don’t want to lose weight, I just want to be fit. I’ll
probably go to the gym more that twice a week. But I need to go with someone to do exercise
because I get bored easily.

I need to stop watching series and movies on Netflix because I don’t want to gain weight. On
vacation I’ll try to eat healthy and to do exercise.

ACTIVITY 4: By pairs, choose a typical Colombian dessert or snack by using ideas from
pages 50 and 51. Use the Help Note page 51 (3A) and answer these questions:

What’s your favorite snack or dessert? When do you eat it? What ingredients does it have?
Do you think it’s healthy? Why? How do you make it?

My favorite dessert is guava sweet with cheese because it’s delicious. I eat it when I don’t
have enough time to make a big snack. Also, it’s a cheap snack. I prefer to eat it with farmer
cheese because it’s heathier than make it with double cream cheese.

I like eating this snack because it gives you a lot of energy, I eat it when I’m busy and tired.

UNIT 7 AND 8

ACTIVITY 5:

1. Individually select some of your friends who are in your circle of friends (My oldest
friend, my best friend now, my girlfriend, my boyfriend, etc) like the ones on page 66
and the one on page 73 exercise 3A (help note: both, neither)

2. Take into account how you met and became friends, what you have in common, things
you do or did together, reasons why that person is your best friend, etc).

-When I was in kindergarten, I met my best friend. It was more than 14 years ago so I
can’t remember why we became friends, but we used to play together with our toys.
We grew up together, we’ve been friends for so long, so we had had some amazing
experiences. I remember when we went to Cabo de la Vela, we had a great time at the
beach.
We’re both disorganized so we always have problems with our parents.
My best friend is someone who I can trust because she has been by my side when I
need someone to talk. We get along well, we have a good friendship but lately we
haven’t been in contact because she doesn’t write back my messages.

-I met my boyfriend when I was 6 years old, we used to be in the same class but when
I first met him, we didn’t get along well because his parents are from the country, so
he was raised in a different way, he seemed a weird person for me. We didn’t talk for
so many years, but when we were 15 years old, we started talking again. We got along
well and started going out together. We’ve been dating for almost 6 years.
We’re both horror movies fans, so when we are together, we like watching horror
movies on Netflix. Neither of us are outgoing but he’s easygoing and friendly.

Don’t forget to use relative clauses and Phrasal Verbs.

Activity 6: After exercise 2B on page 77, think about and write a short list of wishes you
have connected to family, work, studies, social and romantic life, etc. For example:

I wish I had my own apartment, If I had my own apartment, I’d be able to invite my friends
over…

I wish I weren’t so busy. If I weren’t so busy, I could spend more time with my family and
friends. Because I’m always at the university so I wish I had more free time. If I had more
free time, I would be able to do my hobbies like playing video games.

I wish I lived closer to my boyfriend. If I lived closer to my boyfriend, we could go to the

cinema and hang out with our friends.

I wish I were rich. If I were rich, I would travel around Asia. I really want to go to Asia but
it’s so expensive.

ACTIVITY 7: Think about and answer this question: What would you do if you had last
year to live over again? Write different ideas about different areas in their lives (family,
work, studies, social and romantic life, etc.) Check some other ideas on page 83 exercise 2A.

Remember to use Adverbs Of Certainty in affirmative and negative sentences following

the model and expressions in exercise 2C page 83

For example: If I had last year to live over again, I’d definitely spend more time with my
sister because…I’d certainly worry less about my weight because…
If I had last year to live over again, I’d stop being such a perfectionist because it takes a lot of time
and energy. I’d stop being afraid of making mistakes. I’d be more laid-back about life because
sometimes I worry about little problems that does not matter at all.
I’d travel with my family, because we’re always busy working and studying so we don’t have
enough time to go to a trip. I’d like to do a road trip, I really like road trips! We can play the music
we want and talk
