Personal Development Theory;

Based on the pre-existing theories of human development.

Theory of Selective Cognition

Human development from a psychological perspective is a series of stages in which a person dwells
within the premises of improvements and choices in life. Going back to Freud’s psychoanalytical
theory which states that all the actions made by a human person result from a single interaction among
the three parts of the mind: The id, the ego, and the superego. Moreover, Freud places an emphasis on
the role of unconscious psychological conflicts in molding human behavior.

This personal theory of mine delves within the cognitive thinking of a human person. Freud suggests
that human behavior results from an interaction among the components of the mind and it is done
unconsciously. However, I say that humans are always brought up with choices in every action they
make, be that consciously or unconsciously. Even a child aging 2-4 years old are always presented
with choices. The theory of selective cognition deals with the ability of a human person to think
rationally among the choices presented to them in order to acquire knowledge through various facets.

Each day we are facing great heights in life that it’s almost like we embark on a very long journey
heading to our goals. We encounter different people, have the chance to know them and be with them.
Thoughts take into an application through ways that might either be good or bad. We feel pleasure,
joy, anger, guilt, sadness, fear and different emotions solely depending on how we construct ourselves
at the beginning of the day. A lot can change yet the marks of the past are still present and permanent
up to the point that it would just haunt us in our darker times. Experiences shaping some of our
personality as we grow and opportunities that we take to hone our skills. Each of the aforementioned
concepts in life can be made through careful decision-making, we do not unconsciously make
decisions in life but we are given time and choices to complete the task. I believe that most of our
actions regardless of our age are fully accountable to our decision-making and cognitive thinking.

As soon as we take thoughts into action we face multiple choices good or bad. We then think of what
choice should we make with regards to the consequences of these choices. After we make the choice
we either feel joy or guilt and then we are faced with another set of choices again.

In conclusion, all of the things in life come with choices and it depends on us if we want to make the
best out of it through careful decision-making. Things cannot only happen unconsciously but it can if
we had choices to make it occur as is.
