Faster method maybe ?

Using a Template?
Saves time
Much easier to plan
Less details and less task logic errors

Lessons learned using templates

Less risk for missing critical steps
Easier to manage
Easier for all to understand

Changes to Template?
Add checklist items for Critical items.
Eg: Stencil for PC Board, PO Received, PR into PO,
Confirm ETA etc etc

2 TIER Planning
Methodology

• Managers doing TIER 1 Planning

– This is the HIGH level planning

• From TIER 1 discussions happening to prep Team for what is coming

– Rough estimates from experience

• 2 TIER details filled in by person doing the work

– Person, Worker, Engineer whom is doing the work knows what needs to be done

• Update TIER 1 Planning Template where needed, from lessons learned

2-TIER Planning
Methodology

So how does all this talk translate

to in real life?

www.tocpractice.com 42 TOCPA International Conference

Remember this ?

Who knows what the task logic

looks behind all this?

www.tocpractice.com 42 TOCPA International Conference

2-TIER planning

• Cleaner look, Correct?

• Easier to understand the logic flow?

• Faster planning?

• Added benefit, easier to manage Scope change.

QUEUE Tasks

TO DO Tasks

All good, but tasks

required different
execution sequence.

How do we normally
handle it?

Task priority moved

without any intervention
from Project Manager

Resource Planning

What do we all want ?

Less Chaos and More control

How do we normally think about resources ?

Person “A” always do a specific task / job ?

Where does this leave you? Single man dependency ?

Different thinking ….

Pool / Group of skill levels

Easy ? NO not at all.

What tool do I use to help me ?

Summary

• Do not try and plan to much details

• As soon as you plan details it is already wrong from experience

• Details lies with the person doing the work. (Ownership)

• 2-TIER provides flexibility

• Daily stand-ups with R&D Team

• Daily OBEYA (LEAN) Principle stand-up with All project members

• Comment from R&D Hardware team last week

- Previously we normally hit target in YEARS, now we discuss missing it by DAYS J
