ANNOUNCEMENTS

BIOLOGICAL REACTIVE INTERMEDIATES

The Fifth International Symposium on Biological Reactive Intermediates will be held on 4-8 January 1995 in
Munich, Germany. The symposium will describe advances in the understanding of fundamental mechanisms
of toxicity and carcinogenesis. For further information contact Dr R. Snyder, EOHSI, 681 Frelinghuysen
Road, PO Box 1179, Piscataway, NJ 08855-1179, USA (fax 908-932-0119).

V O L U N T E E R S IN R E S E A R C H A N D T E S T I N G
A Spring Conference will be held on 3-5 April 1995 in Manchester on Volunteers in Research and Testing. The
aim of this conference is to discuss and assess the importance of human volunteer studies in biomedical
research and safety testing. Topics will include benefits and problems of human volunteers studies, including
safety, ethics and legislation: trial design and recruitment; replacing animals with humans: and new
technologies and future developments. For further information contact Mrs B. S. Close, Conference
Organiser, Battleborough Croft, Battlcborough Lane, Brent Knoll, Somerset TA9 4DS.

B I O M A R K E R S IN E N V I R O N M E N T A L TOXICOLOGY
The second IFCC/Arnold O. Ik.ckman European Conference on Biomarkers in Envirnnmental Toxicology will
take place on !-3 June 1995 in Cannes, France. Plenary subjects will cover chemical and biochemical
indicators of toxic exposures, biomarkcrs of damage to DNA, signs of early organ dysfunction, detection of
individual sensitivity to chemicals, analytical and diagnostic validity, applications in biological monitoring and
risk assessment and implications for preventive strategies. For additional information contact Gerald Bishop
Associates, Hillvicw House, 34 New Street, Charfield, Wotton-under-Edge, Glouccstershire GLI2 8ES
