SECTION C: Writing Section

1. About your background, including how it has impacted the choice of your
present course of study. Also elucidate the main goals and objectives of this
choice and your professional plans on completion of your course .
I come from a business family background, with a low level of education - my father being the
only graduate. With no one to show me the light, I took my academic decisions based on my
interests. Having an academic inclination, it was natural for everyone to have some
expectations from me to bring laurels to the family.
After clearing the NDA exam but unfortunately not joining the forces, I spent a year in physical
distress and contemplating over the career I should pursue. My father, being a Reader in the
Family Court at Kanpur, influenced this decision by engaging in discussions with me on the
same.
Amongst the discussions, he used to tell me about the kind of work courts have to deal with.
The stories of the judges under whom he had worked, were discussed over a cup of tea every
day. He told me about the hard work they do and the responsible and calculated decisions they
have to take, often deciding matters of life and death. The respect in society they enjoy due to
the gravity of their duty fascinated me. I found myself getting interested in the field of law and
started researching about it.
With a clear goal in front of me, I started preparing for CLAT and the dream to be in NLSIU
kept reverberating in my mind, which ultimately came true. Improving my argumentative skills
will be my foremost focus in the 5-year stay at NLSIU.
I am looking forward to joining the esteemed judicial system after the completion of my course
as it would allow me to serve the country and its people. “With great power comes great
responsibility”. Practising law would give me power and being responsible in handling
pressure situations would form a perfect equation for me.

2. What is the single most important consideration that qualifies you to be a
distinguished “Aditya Birla Scholar”?

I believe that the single most prominent quality which qualifies me as an ‘Aditya Birla
Scholarship’ is taking up new challenges and never giving up on myself.
It was in my class 12th that I developed a great interest in joining the defence forces. I applied
for the NDA exam and went for the SSB Interview, which was a 5-day selection process, on
the day my board exams finished. Going for the selection process without any background and
guidance was a challenge for me. I cleared the interview and the medical but couldn’t join the
Army because of my father’s health problems and his border casualty concerns. Seeing the
lugubrious condition of my father, I couldn’t take the decision of going for the training and
dropped the plan. I thought of serving the nation in some other way which could keep him
happy.
Recovering from the dilemma, I started preparing for government jobs. Alongside, I started
gymming. To bear up the expenses of the gym and diet, I took tuitions for secondary school
students. Despite being physically fragile and choosy in terms of food, I managed to push
through the strenuous exercises and dieting to develop a good physique. Unfortunately, I
developed Lumbar Spondylitis, which put an end to my gymming activities. However, I did
not let my physical discomfort become an obstacle to my plans for my future.
The ambition to enter the field of law inspired me to drop a year for CLAT. With the
excruciating pain, studying long hours for CLAT posed another challenge for me, but the
dream of NLSIU kept me going. Slow and steady hard work and my never-give-up attitude
allowed me to reach my goal.
The various instances of my life collectively reflect that I have taken up challenges and worked
hard to earn triumph over them. I will keep taking challenges that would bolster my self-
confidence and help me make the best out of the 5-year stay at NLSIU. I believe this distinct
quality of mine qualifies me for the ‘Aditya Birla Scholarship’ and would help me do justice
to this revered title.
