A. Professional Goals.
Goal#1: Classroom Management
 Improve my ability to have students remain involved and engaged with the task.

Rationale: Classroom management is one of the things I know I am not the strongest at yet, and have
worked on a lot throughout my previous practicum, to learning more strategies. I also have a lot more
students than I have ever taught, in not a very large space which will increase the difficulty overall for
classroom management.

Goal#2: Questioning techniques

Determine appropriate questions, that target different types of thinking (ie. analytic, descriptive,
understanding)

Rationale: I often don’t ask narrow enough questions, to target different thinking styles, and my
questions often lead to yes/no type of answers. I wand to ensure a deeper understanding through
developing questions that require higher order thinking and longer responses ass a result.

B. Strategies (How I will go about achieving my goals).

Strategies for addressing Goal #1:
Incorporate new ways to have the class transition between activities (ex. look sharp- stand with
hands above head). Incorporate management techniques the class already has the knowledge
of (saying freeze) in to my lesson to reinforce management that they are aware of. Provide the
class with a routine for the start and end of each class (ex. have them create or assign warm
up/cool down specific groups) to start and finish each day with structure.

Strategies for addressing Goal #2:

Have different questions specified in each lesson plan and for each activity to become better at
the development of the questions. Have extra questions specified at the end of each lesson plan
for reference, and back up. During class ensure time for questioning either between activities as
part of the transition, or at the end of the lesson as an exit strategy before leading into cool down.

C. Indicators of Progress (How I will know I’m achieving my goals).

Indicators of Progress for Goal #1:
Incorporating a new transition technique over the course of three lessons so students have the
ability to learn it, and implement it two to three times throughout the lesson to ensure
students engagement and attention. Ensuring that students are on task by including at least
one management technique that they are familiar with into each lesson plan, to reinforce
management. Also ensuring there is time allotted into my lesson plans for both warm-up and
cool down for every class.

Indicators of Progress for Goal #2:

By ensuring that there is a different style of question in each lesson plan for each activity that is
clearly identified. Also, by making sure questions are not always repeated in the lesson plans, to
give me a longer list of thoroughly developed questioning styles to use. By building on to
questions previously used to more thoroughly develop them. Finally, by ensuring the questions
are indicated in each lesson plan, and highlighting which questions worked best on the lesson
plan following each lesson.

D. Timeline for Completion.

Goal #1: By the half way point of instructional practicum days (14) I would like to have a successful
structure built through the warm up and cool down groups. By the end of my practicum I would like to
have a successful list of strategies to refer back to going forwards in regards to transitions and
management techniques.
Goal #2: By the half way point of instructional practicum days (14) I would like to have no more yes/no
questions (unless intentional) as part of my lesson plans. As well as, be able to identify better techniques
to use in questioning for understanding. By the end of practicum, I would like to have a list of previously
highlighted lesson plan questions that were successful throughout the practicum
