Introduction

DNTM DPM enables the mariner onboard a vessel to view and print up
to date chart corrections and tracings specific to the vessel.
The source data originates from a variety of hydrographic offices in digital
format.

The client software acts as both a Chart Index record and Chart
Correction Log.

Updates to the Chart Index record and the relevant Notice to Mariner
sections are transmitted to the vessel by weekly e-mail and can be
automatically applied to the software.

Your company has subscribed to the DNTM service and selected the
modules shown on the DNTM Supply Agreement Form accompanying
this manual.

The following is the likely order of events:

1) This manual, a copy of the supply agreement and advice that an

installation CD has been despatched should all have been received
by E Mail.
2) On the Thursday of the commencement week an update file will be sent
by e mail. (The commencement week and relevant e mail address are
indicated on the supply agreement.)
3) Update files will continue to be sent every Thursday that a NTM is issued.
NOTE: Until the installation CD has been received and installed, these
update files need to be saved.
4) On receipt of the Installation CD follow the Installation section of this
manual.

-1-
Installing DNTM

The CD supplied contains vessel specific data, please do not use to install
on vessels other than the one it was intended for.

1. Close any programs that maybe running on your computer.

2. Insert the DNTM installation CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

The CD is automatically launched and the setup program begins.

If this does not happen, your computer may not be set up to use
autorun CD’s. In which case, using windows explorer, browse the
CD and select ‘setup.exe’ to start installation.

3. Follow the prompts onscreen to install DNTM on your computer.

A default location for the software will automatically be suggested
during the installation, it is recommended that this is accepted
before continuing.

4. Once installation is complete, you are ready to start DNTM for the
first time. You can find the DNTM program on the windows start
menu or on your desktop if this option was selected during
installation.

5. Leave the installation CD in your computer’s CD-ROM drive and

start DNTM.

When the logon screen is displayed, make sure the user name is
set as “administrator” and leave the password blank to start the
software.

6. Once all data is imported and the main screen is displayed, exit
DNTM and remove the CD from your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

7. If any update emails have been received before installation, the

attachments should now be saved to the systems update directory
(default: C:\Program Files\DNTM\Updates) to enable the most up
to date corrections to be displayed.

8. Installation is now complete, DNTM can now be started and used in

Accordance with the User section of this manual.

-2-
This section contains information relating to the various options available
to the user from the menus at the top of the screen. It is assumed that
installation has taken place and the software run to install the initial dataset.

Starting Program

Start DNTM from either the start menu or by double clicking the icon on
the desktop if present. Enter your user name and password to continue.

Once the correct username has been verified, DNTM will check all
selected areas for updates and apply any found. Once this process has
finished, the main screen will be displayed.

Once DNTM has initialised itself, the main screen is displayed and if any
changes to the index have been received with the latest update files
then you are prompted to apply these.

-3-
Updates to the Index can come from two sources:

1) If you have advised us of a change the addition or deletion will be

sent in the next week’s update file.
2) If the Weekly NTMs affect your index, for example, new charts to
replace charts of a different number, new edition dates etc.

Only apply the updates to the index when they are valid, for example,
the NTMs may announce a new edition is published, in that case the
new edition date correction to your index will be sent with the next
week’s e mail, however the actual copy of the new edition chart may
not be received onboard for a few weeks. The update to the index
should be applied when the new edition chart is received onboard.
This way the index always reflects the actual charts onboard. To apply
an update or updates select ‘Yes’ and highlight the charts and
publications that you wish to update the index with.

Click the ‘OK’ button to apply the selected items to the index and return
to DNTM
WARNING: DO NOT APPLY INDEX UPDATES UNTIL THEY ARE VALID.
FOR EXAMPLE: A NEW EDITION CHART MAY NOT ARRIVE ONBOARD FOR
SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER BEING ANNOUNCED IN THE WEEKLY NTM.

Views

Three views are available within DNTM, geographical index (for those
that store the charts this way) numerical index and weekly correction lists.

The geographic index can be selected with either the button on the
toolbar or by selecting geographical index on the view menu.

This option displays the vessels index by folio and allows the user to
quickly establish which folios have outstanding corrections. When the
folio list is viewed, each folio is shown with a different icon depending
on the current state of corrections applicable to the charts contained
within.

Double click a folio to display the charts or publications contained within

it ordered by consecutive number. The products also are shown with
differing icons depending on the current state of corrections applicable.

-5-
The numeric index can be selected with either the button on the toolbar
Or by selecting numeric index on the view menu.

This option displays the vessels index in order of product code and allows
the user to easily find products onboard. As with the geographical index,
the icon next to the product changes to reflect the current correction
status.

With both of these views, select a chart to view the applicable

corrections in the top right hand section of the screen.

The final view available to the user is weekly correction lists. As with the
other two views this is selected with either the button on the toolbar or by
selecting correction lists on the view menu.

Corrections

-6-
Once either a chart or correction week has been selected, a list of
applicable corrections is displayed in the right hand window.

The right hand column shows the status of the correction and can be
one of three values:
‘Y’ – Yes, the correction has been applied to the chart
‘N’ – No, the correction has not been applied to the chart
‘U’ – Unknown, the system does not know whether the
correction has been applied or not (used with historic
corrections from before the system was installed)

Using the mouse, select a notice number to view the correction in the
bottom window.

Once the correction has been displayed, select any additional view
such as tracing that you wish to view.

-7-
Once a correction has been applied to a chart, it can then be marked
as complete to remove highlighting.

To mark a correction as complete, highlight the chart and correction

before selecting the ‘mark a complete’ button on the toolbar.

Printing

Individual corrections, tracings and blocks can be printed by viewing in

the bottom pane and then selecting print from the toolbar. This option is
generally used when the PC is close to the correcting table.

A weekly print option is also available on the toolbar, enabling the user
to print either all tracings, blocks, notices or a correction list for a
particular week or by folio for selected weeks. This option is generally
used when the PC is away from the correcting table.

On the weekly print screen, there is an option to only print information for
selected folios. If this is required, select the folios button to expand a list of
available folios.

-8-
Once the list is displayed, select all of the folios that require printing before
selecting ‘OK’

Updates

The software automatically checks for new updates whenever it is run.

During setup, the default location is set as the update directory where the
software
is installed (generally C:\Program Files\DNTM\Updates).
Additional locations may be used by selecting ‘Update Locations’ on the
Tools menu. The choices presented here are ‘Default Email Client’, which
checks the
inbox of compatible email products. ‘CD/ DVD Drive’ which
checks all CD drives on the computer and ‘Secondary Location’ which
allows the user to select any directory on the computer where the update
files received by email are saved.

Users

It is important that each user has a password. The software maintains a

log of events against each user, for example, the action of confirming
that a correction has been completed is logged against the specific user
at the time in order to provide traceability.

When the software is installed, only the administrator user is included. By

default this does not have a password and it is recommended that a
password is set as soon as possible and other users set up to enable
correct logging.

To add new or edit users, select the user option from the tools menu.

To add a new user, type the users name in the first box on screen and
then type their password in the ‘New Password’ and ‘Confirm New

-9-
Password’ boxes before selecting ‘OK’ to save the details. To edit a user,
using the drop-down box, select the user that you wish to edit and after
entering the existing password, enter the new one in the ‘New
Password’ and ‘Confirm Password’ boxes before selecting ‘OK’ to save.

Index Updates

To ensure DPM records match the charts and publications

onboard, an option is available on the toolbar to advise index changes.

When selected, a new window is displayed, click the ‘Add’ button to add
charts and publications to the list. When complete, select the ‘Ok’ button to
send an email confirming these changes.
