a) Starters shall be solenoid operated, air break, heavy-duty
type with non-bouncing silver alloy contact and suitable for direct on line starting of motors. b) The DOL starter shall be rated for 900o/o normal starting and inrush current. c) The DOL starter shall be capable for 15 nos. of starts per hour without any requirement of time interval. d) All parts of DOL starter shall be interchangeable with similar parts. e) The starter shall be used for uninterrupted duty as well as intermittent duty. f) The thermal over load relay with single phase preventor feature shall be ambient temperature compensated three elements type. The resetting of relay shall be possible with the compartment door closed. The relay shall be either directly connected or CT operated depending on the rated current of the motor. CT, if required, shall be supplied and fitted in by the supplier. g) Each starter shall be provided with push buttons for starting/ stopping/test and ON-OFF and fault trip indicating lamps on the panel front. Push buttons shall not be of less than 1OA rating at 230 V, AC. h) Solenoid coil of starters shall be suitable for operation at 230 V+/-10%, single phase 50 Hz power supply. i) Starters shall be furnished complete with control fuses, control wiring etc., as specified. j) The single phase preventer shall preferably be a part of Thermal overload relay otherwise separate SPRR shall be provided. k) Starting/ stopping of motor shall be possible from field, panel, process trip, future interlock and from remote station control panel. Accordingly feedback signals command like selection (Local/Remote/Field), Running/Trip, Start/Stop command etc. shall be extended to owner's PLC system (control panel) through potential free contacts provided in the feeder and extended upto marshalling cubicle. 1) Supply to space heater of Motor (rating above 30 KW) shall be given from motor feeder itself through a pair of NO & NC contacts. Interlocking of space heaters shall be provided such that space heater is automatically ON when Motor is stopped and OFF when Motor is running. m) Contactors controlling the motor feeder shall be selected as per Type 2 coordination chart and shall have a rating of at least 125% of the maximum continuous rating of the connected motors. n) Protection for Motors : The protections shall be provided for the motors: a. Against short circuit. b. Against over load. c. Against single phasing.
ii. Soft Starter
a) Soft starter, wherever specified shall be provided for motor
starting. b) Starters shall be compact, simple to use with a solid state controller suitable for direct on line starting of motors. c) The soft starter shall be rated for 400°/o normal starting and inrush current. d) The soft starter shall be capable for 15 nos. of starts per hour without any requirement of time interval. e) All parts of soft starter shall be interchangeable with similar parts. f) It shall be the best model available with the soft starter manufacturer having all latest features. g) Exhaust fans & louvers shall be provided for heat dissipation in the soft starter panel. h) Each soft starter feeder shall have an in-built by-pass contactor in addition to main contactor such that the soft starter does not carry the full load current during the normal operation of the motor and motor protection shall be made available in bypass mode also. i) A separate by-pass contactor and over load relay with SPP protection is also to be provided which shall be used to by-pass the soft starter in case of any fault with the soft starter. j) Main Contactor and by-pass contactor should be of same rating, and shall be selected as per Type 2 coordination chart and shall have rating at least 125% of the maximum continuous rating of the connected motors. k) The resetting of over load relay shall be possible with the compartment door closed through a push button. 1) Semiconductor fuse link shall be provided as per the Manufacturers recommendation to achieve type-2 coordination. m) The starter shall be used for uninterrupted duty. n) It should have the alphanumerical display of faults etc. o) The starter shall have built-in pump control feature, which shall reduce surges in the pumping system during starting and stopping of the pump by smoothly accelerating and decelerating the motor, at a selectable rate. Pump characteristic curves shall be furnished to the vendor during commissioning to do necessary settings so as to match the starting characteristics of the motor with that of pump. p) Each starter shall be provided with push buttons for starting I stopping I reset from the panel and ONOFF and fault trip indicating lamps on panel. Push buttons shall not be of less than 1OA rating at 230 V, AC. q) 2 no. NO + NC spare contacts shall be provided in soft starter ON/OFF condition. r) Starters shall be furnished complete with control fuses, control wiring etc. as specified. s) Starting/stopping of motor shall be possible from field, panel, process trip, future interlock and from remote station control panel etc. Padlocking to be provided to stop push button of panel. Accordingly feedback signals/ command like selection (Local/Remote/Field), Running/Trip, Start/Stop etc., shall be extendable to owner's PLC system (control panel) through potential free contacts provided in the feeder and extended upto marshalling cubicle. t) Supply to space heater of Motor (rating above 30 KW) shall be given from motor feeder itself through a pair of NO & NC contacts. Interlocking of space heaters shall be provided such that space heater is automatically ON when Motor is stopped and OFF when Motor is running. u) Protection for Motors: Unless otherwise specified, following protections shall be provided for all motors: a. Against short Circuit b. Against over load c. Against single phasing. v) Vendor shall arrange to depute representative of manufacturer of soft starter for trouble shooting & commissioning of soft starter at site, without any extra cost to Owner.
