Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of my progress thus far on the

Professional Development Quest Portfolio (PDPQ). So far, there have been ups and downs, and

I have worked diligently complete every task with high-level work and justifications. This

review of my work represents my impressions of the work I have completed so far and the work

that is still yet to be completed.

What Have I Completed So Far?

The first thing I did for my PDQP was to set up a Weebly webpage for it. I decided on

Weebly because I knew that the presentation would be aesthetically pleasing and would be easy

to use. I wanted to use an ePortfolio format that would be easy to use but still have flexibility for

creativity. So I began my Weebly page by creating a Home page that included a Table of

Contents and a photo of myself. In addition to providing a Table of Contents, I also included a

list of the TPE standards that are included in each of the TPE domains. The next thing I did was

set up an About Me page and Contact Me page. This allows the readers to get to know me and

find out how to contact me. After completing the About Me and Contact Me pages, I began to

create the domain pages for the portfolio. I created generic webpages to represent each of the

domains. I left spaces for artifacts, literary reviews, descriptions, titles and justifications. I did

this for each of the six domains.

After setting up the domains, I began to fill in the domains. I started by including four

artifacts and the justification for Domain A. I selected 3 artifacts originally, then later added in

the literary review from the book Teach Like a Champion 2.0. I originally included the “Tell My

Story” part in my justification. However, after reworking the PDQP, I decided that it didn’t

really fit in that part of the PDQP so I removed it and added it as its own component of the

portfolio. Next, I moved on and did the same for Domain F. On Domain 4, I added 4 artifacts,

the literary review, and justification. Similarly to the Domain A assignment, I added my five-

year professional development timeline to my justification. I included it because it part of that

week’s assignment. After consideration, I decided to take it out of the justification and make it

its own component of the portfolio because it does fit in with the professional development

domain, but it doesn’t really fit well as a justification. I did leave the part about my personal

reflection on my strengths and weaknesses in both documents. Next, I moved on and did the

same thing for Domain B. Since then, I have added in my artifacts for Domains C, D, and E. I

have not completed my literary reviews or justifications for those domains yet, but will likely

have those done in the upcoming days.

Goals for My PDQP

My ultimate goal for this Professional Development Quest Portfolio is to learn something

about myself and my teaching style and philosophy. I appreciate greatly the self-reflection that

this portfolio has caused me to go through. I know that this project has made me a teacher by

looking deeply at my own teaching styles and methods. In addition to looking at my teaching

philosophy and techniques, you can’t help but examine new ways to improve through your own

personal reflection. It is my goal to use this information to make me a better teacher.

My secondary goal is to finish this portfolio as quickly as possible. This may not sound

like a smart goal, but for me it is. I am very driven to complete this class early and efficiently. I

will not sacrifice efficiency for expediency, but completing the course quickly is important to

me. I am getting married in April and am trying to save a lot of money. On top of that, I am

looking to buy my first house. I have been given a deadline of September 1 to complete my

coursework. I was uninformed of this until after the deadline had already passed. I am currently

in the process of working with the university as well as my school district to remedy the

problem, but it is an uphill battle on both ends. My goal is to complete the course in half the

time allotted and get my grades submitted early so that I can get my completion date changed.

Goal Achievement Thus Far

PDPQ PROGRESS REPORT p. 5

In terms of my primary goal, I have been moving along well. I am working hard and

completing the work quickly. I have been able to do my assignments without much difficulty.

However, I have been reflecting deeply on my work to ensure that I am developing and growing

as an educator. I have learned so much about myself and how I teach. After reflection, I would

say that my teaching philosophy is slightly different than I previously perceived myself. I came

to this realization by becoming an objective viewer of my work rather than the one building the

lessons. After consideration, I can honestly say that I am proud of the educator I am, am excited

to turn into the educator I want to be, and recognize the work I still have yet to complete.

In terms of the secondary goal, I am deeply frustrated. I need the pay increase to survive

with what I have coming up. I was counting on the money. I am a very planned, calculated

person so I assumed that I would have a pay raise coming next month. So far, every avenue has

been closed on me. But, I refuse to give up. I will keep trying and keep begging everyone I can

at both the district office and the university to see if I can get the completion date changed so that

I can make it happen. I don’t want any handouts. I want to do the work and complete it

effectively. I am just looking for a miracle and a nice soul to help me the rest of the way.

Frustrations and Concerns

My greatest frustration was voiced in the previous header. I am incredibly frustrated with

the deadline situations, especially when the deadline I was given prior was November 18 to get

my transcripts turned in. I would have easily met this deadline. Therefore, this was a big

frustration.

My second concern would be in the wording of some of the prompts on the Blackboard

site. Some of the instructions are a bit confusing because all of work for the week is grouped

into one assignment. The wording of the prompts kind of runs together so that it becomes

confusing at times as to what the prompt is requesting.

What’s Next?

The next step is to finish the project. It is still Week 1 of the class, and I am just now

completing my Week 3 progress report and discussion board. I am nearly done with Domain C,

D, and E. I should have that finished up in the next couple of days. I will then complete my

reflection and last two discussion boards and then I should be done with the project. I look

forward to completing the project in the next three to four days.
