Abstract
The original inhabitants of Central Kalimantan are the Ngaju Dayak tribe. Ngaju.
Ngaju Dayak tribe has its own uniqueness in viewing this nature with symbols or illustrations
that are still believed to this day, even one of these symbols has now become a mascot for the
majority of this tribe, namely Batang Garing or also called Batang Haring. Crisp or Batang
Haring which means Tree of Life.
Batang Haring are shaped like spear points that point up or the sky. This is believed to
symbolize the Kaharingan religion (Dayak tribe belief) Ranying Hatala Langit, the source of
all life. Each branch has three pieces facing up and down. The branch represents three major
groups of people as descendants of Maharaja Sangiang, Maharaja Sangen, and Maharaja
Bunu. While the leaves symbolize the tail of one of the birds that became the identity of the
Dayak tribe, the hornbill (Tingang bird). While at the bottom of Batang Haring has a jar filled
with holy water and a notched branch which also symbolizes Jatha or the underworld or often
referred to as Batu Nindan Tarung Island. The island that was the place where humans were
first put down to earth.
The Haring Trunk or the Tree of Life also symbolizes the balance or harmony of
relationships between humans, humans and nature, and humans and God. A triangulation,
Batang Haring with Guci (Balanga) symbolizes two worlds, where the upper world is
symbolized by the Tree of Life and the underworld is symbolized by Guci, but is bound by a
unity that is related and requires.
While the fruit on Batang Haring symbolizes a group of human beings. Where the two
fruits are there which point upwards and also those which lead up are a reminder for humans
to always respect one another. So the place of origin of humans is in the upper world or Lewu
Tatau.
