Exactly! Our topic for today is about

Elements of Poetry.

The elements of poetry are the following:

 Meter-is a unit of rhythm in poetry,

the pattern of the beats.
-in certain types of poems such as
haiku, the writer counts the number
of syllables in each line.

 Stanza –a smaller unit or group of

lines or paragraph in a poem. A
particular stanza has a specific meter,
rhyme scheme, etc…

 Rhyme –a poem may or may not

have a rhyme.
-when you write poetry that has a
rhyme, it means that the last words or
sounds of the lines match with each
other in some form.

 Rhyme Scheme – it is defined as the

pattern of the rhyme.

 Theme-the central idea that the poet

wants to convey.

 Imagery- appeals to the five sense (The students will read the poem presented on
the board and starts analyzing each poem)
