STEM 1209 Assignment #1

What is MLA?

The Modern Language Association (MLA) is an organization responsible for developing MLA

format, often called MLA style. MLA format was developed as a means for researchers,

students, and scholars in the literature and language fields to use a uniform way to format their

papers and assignments. This uniform, or consistent, method to developing an MLA paper or

assignment allows for easy reading. Today, MLA is not only used in literature and language

subject areas; many others have adopted it as well.

What is APA?

APA stands for American Psychological Association and is a common formatting style for

essays and papers in the social sciences. APA style has unique formats for in-text citations and

reference pages. Its style and guidelines increase the ease of reading comprehension for

viewers as well as ensure consistent presentation of content and written material.

What is the dirrefence between MLA and APA?

American Psychological Association and Modern Language Association are writing and

formatting styles used in papers, reports, and academic essays. APA is predominately used in

the social sciences while MLA is predominately used in the liberal arts and humanities. The

guidelines provide overall formatting for content, style and references. While they have many

similarities, there are also many differences.
