Bell Ringer Instructions 2019


10 points per week; Collected on Friday

Learning Targets:

Students will be able to:


 start learning at the beginning of class.
 write name and hour at top of BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET (1 point)

Monday MISTAKES (1 point)


 show command of Standard English usage.
 correctly capitalize, punctuate, and spell.
 evaluate how language functions in different contexts.

Tuesday TERMS (1 point)


 use context clues to determine the meaning of a word.
 figure out meaning of words at grade level.

Wednesday WISE WORDS (3 points)


 identify author’s ideas.
 answer each question in a complete sentence; minimum of 3 sentences.

Thursday THOUGHTS (3 points)


 produce clear and coherent writing.
 write routinely for a short time.
 develop a paragraph in a minimum of five (5) complete sentences.

Friday FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE (1 point)


 understand the meaning of figurative language.

Directions:
1. You will receive a BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET on Monday.
2. You will complete one BELL RINGER RESPONSE activity per day.
3. At bell, start each BELL RINGER RESPONSE and work independently.
4. Then, we will check each BELL RINGER RESPONSE as a class.
5. Be prepared to share your response for a FUN FRIDAY red ticket.
6. I will collect BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET every Friday.
7. You can pick up BELLRING RESPNSE SHEET in Checked Papers tray per hour.
8. All BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEETS go in Section A: Bell Ringers of binder.
9. If you are absent:
o I will give you a BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET upon your return.
o I will put a few extras in the black file holder.
o Also, you can find BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET teacher website.
o Turn completed BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET into RED bin to be graded.
o You are responsible for completing missing work; writing ABSENT and leaving blank
will result in a zero.

Assessments:
1. I collect BELL RINGER RESPONSE SHEET every Friday for 10 points
-1 point: if First and Last name, plus hour is not written on top in blue/black
1 point: Monday MISTAKES
1 point: Tuesday TERMS
3 points: Wednesday WISE WORDS:
 Answer each question in the box using Standard English and grammar. You
need to write more than “I do not agree” (1 point)
 Circle each punctuation mark at end of sentence (1 point)
 Write on ALL lines (1 point)
4 points: Thursday THOUGHTS:
 Write using Standard English and grammar (1 point)
 Circle each punctuation mark at end of sentence (1 point)
 Write on ALL lines (2 points)
