The purpose is to teach the student the knowledge of how the staff is formed in the tactical units
of the National Army
It is a simple cohesive element that helps the Commander in fulfilling his mission. It is important
that the officers of the Main Board remember that their jobs are not only to help the Battalion
Commander, but also to help the Company Commanders.

FUNCTIONS OF THE STAFF


A. Obtain and Provide Information.
The main purpose of this activity is to allow the Commander to make his decision and
disseminate it throughout the Unit.
B. Perform situation tests.
The main objective is to provide the Commander with conclusions and
recommendations based on the information analyzed.
C. Present Conclusions and Recommendations.
The fundamental purpose is to provide the Commander with specific issues presented
in an objective manner, which require their approval or not.
D. Prepare Plans and Orders.
The fundamental purpose is to provide for all aspects that are considered for future
action.
E. Supervise the execution of the Orders.
The main objective is to make sure that the content of the Plans and Orders has been
understood and fulfilled.
THE HEAD OF PERSONAL SECTION I (P-1).

1.- The Chief of the First Section. P-1 Personnel, is the main adviser of the Commander in
all matters pertinent to individuals who are under immediate military control, both their
own and enemy, military or civil.

EFE OF SECTION II INTELLIGENCE (P-2).

1.- The Chief of the Intelligence Section (G-2) is the main adviser of the Commander in
matters related to the enemy, weather conditions, terrain and security. Against Intelligence

activities of the real or potential enemy, and the protection of information against the
espionage of personnel against subversion and facilities or material against sabotage.

THE HEAD OF SECTION III OPERATIONS (P-3) .-

1.- The head of the Third-Operations Section (P-3) is the principal advisor of the
Commander in matters related mainly to organization, instruction and operations.

THE HEAD OF SECTION IV LOGISTICS (P-4) .-

1.- The head of Section IV - Logistics, is the principal adviser of the Commander in matters
related mainly to supplies, evacuation, and hospitalization, transportation and service. He
is responsible for the planning and control of the instruction concerning logistics in his own
