EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Motorcycles are two-wheeled vehicle that is usually used for travelling. It is

powered by a motor and it does not have any pedal on it. Thus, EFX Motorcycle Depot is

known for selling parts and accessories of a motor. It is located at #230 Stall ABC 10th

Avenue, East Grace Park, Caloocan City. Caloocan City is known for being the

Motorcycle Capital of the Philippines because of the multitudinous motor dealers located

in that area. Especially in 10th Avenue, if you are to visit that place you will be able to

locate parallel stores of merchandisers that sells almost the same product with different

quality and brand.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry and Board of Investments the

motorcycle division here in the Philippines is continuously expanding. Due to the affinity

of the Filipinos with the usage of motorcycles. Motorcycle is commonly wielded for leisure

and personal use to business needs. Motorcycles are feasible and viable means in urban

and rural areas because of its practicality. Especially in terms of travelling in tight and

stony roads.

EFX Motorcycle Depot is a sole proprietorship business. It is owned by Mr. Angelo

Marquez. He started his business in May 2008 and is currently operational. According to

him, starting this business was a dream come true because when he was young he badly

wanted to contribute to the economy of the Philippines. Also, he wanted to make a name

in this industry. Moreover, since the business was still an abecedarian type of business.

Nevertheless, an ongoing process of learning is what makes a business successful.

On the other hand, a Sole Proprietorship business is owned by an individual. It is

an unincorporated business entity with less liabilities and less capital (Dishman, 2010).

However, in constructing a single proprietorship type of business has huge risks. In terms

of personal liability, obtaining capital, losing investment, and strained relationships.

Owners in this field tends to have individual liability in all aspects of the business. A

struggling sole proprietor may have difficulty in locating the necessary funds to keep the

enterprise afloat or buoyant. Some sole proprietors are the one who provides money to

the business as their own capital. Some owners tend to focus more and allocate time to

their business which strains relationships inside the family and/or friends due to lack of

time.

EFX Motorcycle Depot is a merchandising business, also known as "buy and sell".

Basically, the products that this business sell is purchased from the manufacturers and is

sold as is at an amount higher than the amount of purchase from the manufacturer. Some

of the products that this business sells are mufflers, oils, batteries, tires and a lot more to

mention.

On the brighter side, this type of business is flexible among the changes happening

in our society. Whereas, it can easily adapt to the number of changes happening in the

current market trends. Also, this business offers a variety of products that could eventually

meet the demands of the customers.

To conclude, the objectives of this business according to the observation of the

researchers are to ameliorate its employees skills in terms of the behavior and services

allocated. To accord affordable and high quality standard products and services offered
by the business. Lastly, to demonstrate goodwill by following the stewardship function, as

stated in Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and Management 1.

Moreover, companies tend to have a lot of problems to be resolved by the

companies, themselves. Sometimes, other businesses are not aware of the possible

problems that may arise depending on the situation that they are currently facing. As a

result, this study generally targets to evaluate the excellence and caliber of motorcycle

parts, accessories and services provided by the business. How do the business copes up

with the unorganized departments in selling and giving service to the customer's demand.

As a result, the researchers have deduced in having two alternative courses of

action which are:

 EFX MOTORCYCLE DEPOT must have their own separate location and/or store

for the service that they give to their customers.

 EFX MOTORCYCLE DEPOT must renovate their own store, so that the separation

of location inside the store of the services the company provides to their customers

from the space of goods where the company sells.

The recommended alternative course of action is where EFX Motorcycle Depot

must renovate their store, separating the goods and the service being offered. Due to the

circumstance that looking for a new location is difficult. Since 10th Avenue Caloocan is

already crowded and saturated with different motorcycle parts and accessories store.

Also, renovating the store will make it more organized and less-confusing to the

consumers.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study generally aimed to evaluate the viability of established Motorcycle Parts,

Accessories and Service Center in East Grace Park, Caloocan City in order to propose

some concrete improvement measures. Based on this general objective, the study

resolved to answer the following specific questions:

1. How do the manager, motorcycle mechanics handle their customer

complaints with regard to their services – especially in terms of selling

high-end parts and accessories?

SITUATION

As of now, motorcycles are in demand especially in terms of the people within

Caloocan as it is a well-known destination for all motor cyclists and is in fact the

motorcycle capital of the Philippines. Motorcycles for business use, which posted an 18

percent sales growth last 2017 at 202,098 units compared with 170,979 units in 2016, are

expected to continue on an upward trend because of the rising popularity of the cocooning

trend (Carmudi, 2018). Though like all business, it has its own ups and own downs. In

this case, the government, our president himself, has already released a statement

against vehicle in terms of parking. The government has shown its intention to promote

public barriers to ensure the accessibility of sidewalks and the decrease of illegal parking,

thus directly affecting the motorcycle industry. The main point of this study is about

improving the organization and management of the said business to make its service

more convenient to both sides of the consumer and the seller's parties.

 To be able to provide alternative course of action which are highly effective.

 To evaluate the business and discuss possible circumstances that is inevitable.

Merchandising Business also known as Buy and Sell is one of the most common

types of business in accordance with its business activities. It is where the merchandiser

buys products from the manufacturing company and selling it at a higher price. Some

examples of this are sari-sari stores, malls, and book stores.

According to the City Ordinance No. 0503, Series of 2013 which was enacted by

the City of Caloocan Council last September 7 and was approved by Mayor Oscar

Malapitan on September 30 states that the establishments in the city are prohibited in

using non-biodegradable plastic and styrofoam packaging.

However, one major problem with plastics is that it takes a very long time for the

plastics to break down once discarded by the public which often leads to immense

difficulties with the wastes in landfills and often posts a danger to wildlife and biomes.

Thus, making all the establishments follow the said ordinance. The business is now using

a biodegradable plastic which helps lessen the possibility of having massive aftermaths.

These plastics uses alternative materials or specialized enzymatic or chemical reactions

to be able to further breakdown the material as quickly as possible once exposed to the

elements. Some of the benefits of using biodegradable plastics is that it reduces the waste

that we are contributing on earth. Since 9% of the plastics as of now are being recycled.

Also, it helps the Earth to conserve and save petroleum supplies.

Lastly, these biodegradable plastics are doing little to help solve environmental

issues, these specialized bacteria help in lessening the hazardous non-biodegradable

plastics (Kazmeyer, 2018). Moreover, the EFX Motorcycle Depot is now helping the

planet little by little by being a business that is not only concerned about the profit but also

to the environment. Even, using these plastics contributes in eliminating the hazardous

waste. The public should still be considerate about its disadvantages.

In the business world there will be lots of troublesome competitions between the

business and the competitors, itself. Competitors can be a direct contender, an indirect

contender or a replacement contender. Direct contender refers to the same products

and/or services that are being offered by the owner’s business and other businesses, as

perceived by the consumers. Indirect contenders are individuals or companies that offers

the same benefits based on the mindset of the target market. Replacement competitors

are usually difficult to identify since these are the people or businesses that have the
capacity or desire to somehow supply the same services, products and/or benefits to the

customers.

Thus, making the business more creative in terms of their products and other

business ventures. The direct competitors of EFX Motorcycle Depot in a larger aspect

are:

Basically, EFX Motorcycle Depot is inclined in selling replacement products only.

Unlike, the companies mentioned above, they sell original parts and accessories of their

specific brand. For instance, Suzuki released Hayabusa 2018, a motorcycle model which

was only produced by Suzuki. Suzuki sells and operates the necessary equipment and

parts that are needed when a problem arrives. In short, Suzuki only sells parts and

accessories depending on the model which they are producing. They are not selling

competitors branded parts and model of motorcycles.

On the other hand, based on the location of EFX Motorcycle Depot there are new

entrants that is continuously increasing since Caloocan City is known as the Motorcycle

Capital of the Philippines. The new entrants are as follows:

 Innobike

 LPL Racing

 Road Bikers

 Moto Industriya

 Hurricane Motorcycle Center

 Road Rage

 SYZ

 Cycle Mar

 Maya

 DNC

These new entrants are located in 10th Avenue, East Grace Park, Caloocan City.

These new entrants such as LPL Racing, Innobike and Road Bikers deals with racing

parts of sports motorcycles. Unlike, at EFX they do not sell and/or deals with any racing

parts. Therefore, they are replacement competitors. While, Cycle Mar and Maya deals

with the original components of a motorcycle. Such as Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

Therefore, these are indirect competitors. Moreover, Moto Industriya, Road Rage and

Hurricane Motorcycle Center only sells replacement parts and accessories. Therefore,

based on the Location of the business - These are the direct competitors.
The target market is a particular group of consumers at which a product or service

is aimed. Thus, the expected customers of EFX Motorcycle Depot are motorcycle owners.

Primarily, they are the main consumers of all the necessary parts and accessories that

will be distributed by a company. Specifically, Professionals because some of them are

using motorcycles as their medium of travelling to reach their work. Merchandisers,

because one of the main targets of this business are the wholesalers. Some business-

like stores especially in rural areas are departing their areas to get supplies and goods at

EFX Motorcycle Depot. Some of them even acquire shipping services provided by EFX.

Since the business, main target are the wholesalers, they are the ones who buys

enormous amounts of goods to further sell it to other consumer or stock it for future use.

Lastly, retailers because not all people are looking for multitudinous amounts of products

to acquire, rather they are the one who buys products piece by piece in a time period.

Substitutes serves as a replacement or proxy of a product. EFX Motorcycle Depot

focuses on selling variety of parts and accessories of a motorcycle. Since the basis of

their products is all about motorcycles. Therefore, electric bicycles and bicycles is the

leading substitute of it.

Electric Bicycles are well-known for their efficiency and easy-to-use mechanism.

Twenty (20) years ago, E-bikes is the only transportation mechanism that takes a huge

role in bicycle market share. It has plain pattern that almost imitate the traditional bike.

These E-bikes are small but it is efficient and effective and it has understandable control

system. In 1998, it experiences a rapid sales growth. Nowadays, it is approximately one

hundred twenty (120) million E-bikes that are used in China, itself. Its reported yearly
sales are estimatedly one and a half million (1,500,000) units and is continuously growing

so fast in Europe and North America (Bicycle History, n.d.).

Bicycles are well-known because of their efficiency. Bicycles promote a healthy

lifestyle while you are paddling your way home. Its history dates back around six hundred

(600) years and it is so different back then. There were many innovations and

improvements that happened in a span of years. In the early periods of bicycle, it only

has two wheels, but there is no way to maneuver it. It needs a kick off before it can fully

function and run continuously. It has a slow development and as time passes by, some

mechanisms are being added such as the steer, breaks and many other aspects of bike

until the present day.

ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

EFX Motorcycle Depot aims to provide high-quality service to the consumers.

Thus, this study aims to evaluate and give two possible solutions that will help the

business to improve and enhance their service at work. Especially, the viability of the

established motorcycle parts, accessories and service center.
