1 Saul was a Jewish

Pharisee and he went
around arresting people
who believed in Jesus.
He thought these new
Christians were wrong
and he was making God
happy by stopping them
speak about Jesus. One
day he went to the High
Priest in the temple and
asked for a list of names
of those who believed in
Jesus. He was going to
bring them to Jerusalem
and put them in prison.

2 Some of those who

believed Jesus as their
Saviour were living in a
city called Damascus. So
Saul travelled there to
arrest them.

3 Saul and his men had

almost reached the city,
when suddenly a bright
light from heaven shone
on them. It was so bright
Saul fell down onto the
ground.
4 He heard a voice saying,
‘Saul, Saul why are you
hurting me?’ Saul asked
who was speaking to
him. ‘I am Jesus,’ came
the reply.
‘What do you want me
to do Lord?’ answered
Saul.
‘Get up, go into the city
and you will be told what
to do.’ Saul obeyed. The
men with him heard the
voice but saw no one.

5 When Saul got up from

the ground and opened
his eyes he was blind.
The men with him had to
lead him by the hand
into the city.

6 He stayed in a house in
Damascus for three
days, not eating or
drinking or being able to
see.

7 Now there was a man in

the city called Ananias
who believed in Jesus.
God showed him in a
vision where Saul was
and told him to go and
pray for him. At first
Ananias was afraid when
he heard it was Saul.
Wasn’t this the man who
had come to hurt
Christians and put them
in prison? But God
explained to Ananias
that he had great work
for Saul to do in the
future.
8 When Ananias got to the
house he prayed for Saul
telling him that Jesus
had sent him so he
would receive his sight
again. At once, Saul
could see and he was
filled with the Holy
Spirit.

9 Saul was happy to know

that God had a plan for
his life. He was to share
the good news of Jesus
with everyone. He was
then baptized, and, after
eating some food he felt
much stronger.

10 Soon after this, Saul

visited other Christians
in the city and went to
the synagogues to tell
them about Jesus, the
Son of God. The
Christians were amazed
because Saul had once
been their enemy and
now he was telling them
he too believed that
Jesus was the Saviour of
the world.

11 However not everyone

liked Saul and some
searched the city hoping
to capture and kill him.
Saul found out about
their plans and some of
his friends helped him to
escape over the city
walls hiding in a basket.
12 After Saul escaped he
went back to Jerusalem
to meet with the
Apostles and tell them
that he was now a
disciple of Jesus like
them. Most were afraid
because Saul had
arrested them in the
past. But Barnabas,
another disciple,
persuaded them that
Saul really was a
Christian now and they
accepted him. Now
God’s plan for Saul’s life
could begin. From now
on he would not be
called Saul but Paul.
