Checking your visa details

You can check and email your visa details and conditions at any time using the Visa Entitlement Verification
Online (VEVO) system. To access VEVO, you can use the QR Code provided in the grant notice or visit
www.border.gov.au/vevo
You will need to enter the following information:

- your Visa Grant Number or Transaction Reference Number

- your passport or ImmiCard information.

You can also check and email your visa details through the myVEVO mobile app.

Maintaining a valid visa

You have been granted an Australian visa. You must maintain your visa status and not breach your
obligations while you are in Australia. You must hold a visa which has not expired to maintain your status as a
lawful non-citizen in Australia.
Your visa has been granted for a specific stay period. The stay period is the period of time that you are
permitted to stay in Australia. The period is between the date that you are legally entitled to enter Australia
and the date that your visa expires. On or before the visa expiry date you will need to leave Australia or make
other arrangements with us before this date. Failure to do this will mean your stay will become unlawful. If you
think you will not be able to depart Australia by the date your visa expires, you should contact us as soon as
possible.
For specific information about whether you are permitted single or multiple entries into Australia, the date of
arrival and date of visa expiry, refer to your visa grant notice.

Visa conditions
Your visa has been granted with limitations on what you can do in Australia. These limitations are known as
'visa conditions'. Visa conditions have a legal basis in the Migration Act and Migration Regulations and place
restraints on your conduct when you are in Australia. Each visa holder must comply with the visa conditions
as there are serious consequences for non-compliance. The visa could be cancelled after which you may be
detained or even removed from Australia. It may not be possible for you to apply for another Australian visa in
the future.
The following visa condition(s) apply to you.
Visa condition 8501
- Visa condition 8501 (student) applies to you. This means you must maintain adequate arrangements for
health insurance (generally Overseas Student Health Cover) while you are in Australia. You must not
enter Australia before your Overseas Student Health Cover has begun. You are not permitted to remain
in Australia after your Overseas Student Health Cover has expired. If you are a student from Norway,
Belgium or Sweden you may not need to maintain Overseas Student Health Cover.

Visa condition 8105

- Visa condition 8105 applies to you. This means that you must not engage in any work before your course
of study commences. You are also not permitted to work more than 40 hours per fortnight when you are in
Australia when your course of study is in session.

Note the 40 hour requirement does not apply if you are engaged in work that was specified as a requirement
of the course when the course particulars were entered into the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and
Courses for Overseas Students and the student visa was granted for a masters or doctoral degree.

Visa condition 8202

- Visa condition 8202 applies to you. This means that you must be enrolled in a full-time course and
satisfy the course requirements of your enrolment including the course level, course progress and course
attendance. Unless you are a Defence, Foreign Affairs or secondary exchange student, the course you are
undertaking must be a registered course with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for
Overseas Students (CRICOS).

The course you are undertaking must give you a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework
that is at the same level or higher level than the course mentioned in your grant letter. For further information

Visa condition 8516

- Visa condition 8516 applies to you. This condition means that you must continue to maintain your eligibility
as a person who would satisfy the criteria for the grant of your visa.

Visa conditions 8517

- Visa condition 8517 applies to you. This condition means that you must ensure that adequate schooling
arrangements are maintained for your school age dependants who will be in Australia for more than three
months on the visa.

Visa condition 8532

- Visa condition 8532 applies to you. In general it means that you must maintain adequate accommodation,
support and general welfare arrangements. You are not permitted to change those arrangements without

 the approval of your education provider. This should be in writing. You are not allowed to enter Australia
before the date specified by your education provider.

Visa condition 8533

- Visa condition 8533 applies to you. This condition means that you must notify your education provider
within seven days after arriving in Australia of your residential address (if you were outside of Australia at
time of grant). In all cases, you are also required to notify them of any change to your residential address in
Australia within seven days after the change.

If you intend to change education provider you are required to notify your former education provider within
seven days after receiving an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) or other evidence of enrolment.

Workplace rights
Pay rates and workplace conditions are set by Australian law. All people working in Australia, including those
from overseas, have rights and protections at work. These cannot be taken away by contracts or agreements.

Pay
Your minimum pay rate can come from an award, enterprise agreement or other registered agreement, or
the national minimum wage. Employees have to be paid the right pay rate for all hours they work including
training, team meetings, opening and closing the business and doing a trail shift.

National minimum wage

Certain employees may have different pay entitlements depending on whether they have a reduced work
capacity because of disability, if they are under the age of 21 or if they are an apprentice or trainee. You can

The Australian Government has developed a family safety pack with information on Australia’s laws regarding
domestic and family violence, sexual assault and forced marriage. The family safety pack also includes
important information about essential services and emergency contacts in Australia. This information can be

Polio vaccinations
On 5 May 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General declared the recent international
spread of wild type polio virus to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern under the
International Health Regulations (IHR). Nine countries, listed below, have been identified as having suffered
recent outbreaks of polio.
If you are from one of the countries listed below, or have spent 28 days or longer in these countries on or
after 5 May 2014 we encourage you to have a polio vaccination before departing for Australia. Having the
vaccination will also assist in eradicating the spread of polio.
To obtain maximum benefit in assisting with the eradication of the spread of polio, it is advisable to have the
vaccination at least four weeks before your travel.
