Karma Kitchen is an experiment in peer-to-peer
generosity for the restaurant-going population.
There are no prices on the menu and the check
reads $0.00 with only this footnote: "Your meal was
a gift from someone who came before you. To keep
the chain of gifts alive, we invite you to pay it
forward for those dine after you." The hope with
each gift in the chain is to sensitize people to their
inter-connectedness to those who came before and
those who will come after them; and we believe that
deepening of awareness starts to address the root
cause of various social inequities in our world today.

An offline space, where three elements converge:
share stories, live ServiceSpace values, and hold
space on a circle. A Kindness Circle can be organized
by teachers in classrooms, managers at companies,
volunteers at churches, neighbors in the community,
etc. It can take many shapes and forms, but it
typically involves engaging experienced volunteers
who help to facilitate a dialogue around kindness, a
group reflection where all are encouraged to share
inspiring stories of kindness, and a kindness
experiment where individuals get to put these ideas
into action! The day usually finishes with a group
share of reflections learned from the day.

A circle exists because of the emptiness
in its center. Music is created by the silence
in between the notes. Intuition arises in the
gap between two thoughts. Holding space,
then, is the skillful balance of doing and
not-doing, of sound and silence, of head
and heart, that allows individual notes to
be in harmony with a wider symphony.

CIRCLES
A circle encourages inclusion, emphasizes listening,
supports decentralization, cultivates "many to many"
emergence, and much more. The purpose of
community circles is to bring people from a local
community together to share their skills, talents, gifts
and build relationships.

Starting in September 2003, smile cards began
appearing all around the world. They are markers of a
newfangled game of tag, where “you’re it” because
someone has done something nice for you. Then it is
your turn to d something nice for someone else and,
in the process, pass the card along. This is a game of
pay-it-forward: anonymously make someone smile,
leave behind a card asking them to keep the ripple
going. It’s easy and fun. Is kindness really
contagious? There’s only one way to find out…
