Introduction

World of web contains so many bad websites. The badness of the website is identified by
navigational, visual, display and layout, page download speed and consistency properties
available with the web pages. The website having web address www.thecloveclub.com and name
“Clove Club” is taken to make evaluation with respect to the navigation, visual effects and page
download speed. The evaluation is taken by opening the website and moving from home page to
other linked pages.

A website design is considered a bad website when the navigation support is not user friendly,
visual effects such as color schemes of text, images, background, layout of web pages under
website, typography such as font size, font type and alignment etc are not makes impact to the
user. Page download speed is also a big factor for website design [1]. If homepage and other
linked page of a website takes too much time as usual then it is considered that the design is also
not taken as per the standard and it is bad.

Navigational issue with Website “The Clove Club”

Website www.thecloveclub.com, “The Clove Club” is unstructured and there are bad design to
navigate from home page to internal associated pages. The homepage holds only the name of
website. There is no hyperlink with image or text and also homepage creates confusion for
finding the link to traverse to internal web pages. Hence, it can be concluded that the
navigational support is bad with the design of website.

Further, website The Clove Club has a component to navigate from home page to linked page.
This is a triangular shape small object. Moving the mouse point over this triangular shape object
there is tool tip text for navigation information. This type of navigational property is very old and
with current design aspects of the website is obsolete. The tool tip information that is displayed
after moving the mouse pointer over it does not contain the relevant and informative detail that it
navigates or for something else. The internal webpage of the website The Clove Club contains
only triangular shape navigational object so that it is concluded that its navigational property is
very poor and also obsolete with respect to the modern required properties of a website for
navigation to web pages of website.

Therefore, there is major issue related with the navigational property of the website The Clove
Club.

Visual Effects Issue with Website “The Clove Club”

A website having the various color schemes for fonts, texts, background, images, frames,
containers various typography such as font types, font style, font size web page layout such as
use of tables, frames, justification of texts, scroll bars for moving into page etc is considered
good design [2]. The Clove Club website is design in such as way that its homepage contains
only the name such as The Clove Club. Its homepage does not contains the images, texts to
provide the relevant information for which the website is devoted. It is also found that the color
schemes are not used with homepage or any other linked web page of the website. The gray
shaded texts with small font size not clearly visible to the users so that this type of textual
information as given with its linked web pages do not attract the users to read the information
and it just brings the user attention to just close the webpage without reading and getting the
information about the club for which the website belongs.

The components and objects that are used to provide elegant visual effects of the website
homepage and its linked web pages are lacking with the website The Clove Club. This can be
ensured with the screenshot 2 as there are not use of color schemes with texts, different
typographic properties with the text, unstructured layout etc. Therefore, it is concluded that
website visual effects are very bad.

Page Download Speed Issue with Website “The Clove Club”

Access of the website requires a web browser and Internet connection with a computer system.
The homepage contains the URL address that has to be typed under the web browser to first find
out with World Wide Web (WWW) and if found then load from the remote web server to the
computer web browser [3]. Hence, during the loading phase web server sends the website web
page data to local computer web browser. If the speed of loading means the website does not
offer fast download to web browser then delay is produced to load the website into web browser
to view the web pages such as homepage and other pages linked to homepage of the website. The

Clove Club website download speed is very poor. First the clicking on the link with triangular
shape object highlight the triangular object and then proceed to download to display in browser
window. The display takes at least 5 seconds. This delay is due to not properly configured sub
directory where the linked web pages are stored. Therefore, the page download speed is not so
optimal and design with respect to sub directory to hold the linked web pages of the website The
Clove Club is very bad.

Recommendation for Improvement

The navigation, visual effects and page download speed have the issues due to the bad design of
these aspects of the website “The Clove Club”. Therefore, it is recommended that to modify
these with relevant components of web design to enhance the navigational properties, visual
effects and page download speed. Hence Following recommendations are given to re-design of
the website “The Clove Club

A. Menus, hyperlink with text and images, popup windows containing link and referenced
items, buttons for click to move from current to next page etc are required to be designed
with the website to enhance the navigational properties to make user friendly navigation with
homepage and other pages of website.
B. Images of the club identities, different colored texts, different fonts and styles, tabular texts,
justified texts and background images with the homepages and other pages of the website
make more effects of visibility to the users. So, these aspects should be re-designed by taking
the various visual components as mentioned.
C. The speed of downloading of the homepage and other web pages of the website are enhanced
by configuring the arrangement of folders where the web pages are stored on the web server.
Further, the direct link with the navigational items such as menu items, popup window items
and hyperlinked texts of homepage and other pages of the website must be given to enhance
the download speed.

Conclusion

Evaluation of design of website needs the knowledge of the web design, expertise with website
user friendly properties with respect to navigation, visual impacts, downloading speed to load
into web browser and consistency. To evaluate the website first it is required to look into the
navigational properties available with its homepage and also with internal pages linked with
homepage or other pages. If there are many form of navigation to web pages of the website then
it is considered that navigational properties are good with the website. Similarly, the visual
effects makes impression to stay the user with webpage. If user attracts to read and access the
webpage and stay on the webpage then it is considered that visual effects of the website is good.
Finally if there is no delay to load homepage and other web pages of the website into web
browser then the download speed is also considered good. To determine these properties of a
website “The Clove Club”, is taken and it found that this website is bad in design with respect to
these all three properties as available.
