Steps towards Sustainability: Energy Generating Seesaw

Since the issue of electricity in Pakistan is increasing day by day, we plan to

design a system that utilizes the energy that is going to waste and convert it into
useful electrical energy. In playgrounds, we see a lot of energy going to waste. We
have designed a see-saw that utilizes the mechanical energy and converts it into
useful electrical energy. Every day, a large number of people visit parks and
playground. The idea is to modify few of these rides in such a way that when they are
used, the mechanical energy spent on these rides is converted into electrical energy.
The proposed idea can eventually result in a concept of green energy which will
base on natural energy that no one is utilizing and then converting it into useful
energy. This idea can be used as an alternate of any other energy production
idea that requires a lot more money and require a lot more resources. Hence this idea
can save a lot of energy in the future. The energy that is converted must be sufficient
enough to power the park, if not produced on a much higher scale. The paper is based
on the theory behind the proposed method and how we have managed to create a
prototype of what the people could install in their playgrounds. (Saeer, Bhaleshah,

Energy Contraption Design Using Playground Seesaw for Lighting Load

Applications

Energy contraption is widely used to produce electricity by transforming different

kinds of energy into electrical. One of the sources of energy contraption is from
everyday human activities. The playground is used everyday by children and produces
motion which can be converted to electrical energy. This study is about the conversion
of motion by children playing seesaw and storing it to a battery for future use. Using
pneumatic principle, the mechanical energy from the motion of the seesaw is converted
using the pneumatic principles. With the utilization of the microcontroller, the enrgy
collected will be stored in the battery and will stop charging once the battery is full. The
energy that is stored in the battery will supply mainly for lighting loads. (Abad, Capucao,

Human Powered Generation – Seesaw

This project is a proof of concept work, where playground equipment is

implemented for power generation. In using a seesaw design, this project was able to
show how a simple mechanical motion could be transformed in electrical power. A
seesaw power generator was designed and constructed to demonstrate its feasibility.
Results show that with some modification and improvement to the current design, the
seesaw me indeed provide a viable method to produce electricity. (Varsh, Healy, 2012)

Power Generation by Using See Saw Mechanism

“Power generation using see-saw mechanism” uses the energy which gets
wasted during the clutch operation. This project generates the electricity by using the
energy stored in the wheel.

If clutch pedal is not pressed then engine shaft and wheel shaft both are coupled.
In this state motion is transferred from engine to the wheel. But when the clutch pedal is
pressed, the engine shaft and wheel shaft will get disengaged. Hence no motion will be
transferred. But during this state wheel of the vehicle have momentum and energy is
stored in it which is not utilized nowadays. A large amount of electricity can be
generated by using a certain mechanism. So, this project deals with the generation of
electricity during clutch operation.

In this project we have used a dc motor as an engine to provide the motion to the
wheel. And we have made an arrangement such that the pulley which is attached to the
wheel shaft will engage with the dynamo during the clutch being operated. This dynamo
will used the energy gain by the wheel and will generate electricity. In this project the
components used are as follows: transformer, rectifier, shaft, pulley, wheel, DC motor,
rope drive, bearings, dynamo, multimeter, wire, welding device etc… Here the name
see-saw mechanism is given because the arrangement we have used is of the shape of
see-saw game played by the children.

This project will help in increasing the life of brake shoes as the see- saw
mechanism also produces braking effect. Also this will increase the efficiency of engine
by removing the alternator which is used for starting of the vehicle. (P. Singh, Pramanik,

Fabrication of Swing Motion Power Generation

Energy need of the world is growing day by day because of consumption of

energy at a larger extent with the population growth. This paper is about generating
power by using a swing in such a way that when it swings the mechanical energy is
generated and it is converted into electrical energy by a commutator and is stored in a
battery. The construction is such a way that, the swinging action makes the horizontal
beam rotating through an angle. This shaft is connected to a sprocket to transfer the
motion to the free wheel which rotates proportionally with respect to the angle of motion
of the swing. The angular movement is converted into a complete rotation with the help
of a chain drive connecting both sprocket and free wheel. The free wheel is connected
to a shaft which in turn rotates the spur gear and dynamo arrangement to generate
electricity. (Ayneendra, Vishwanath, Tehus, Hemanth, 2017)

Swing Human Powered Generator

The Play Park Human Powered Generator project addresses various ways of
generating power. More specifically, this project entails the design and construction of
the Swing Power Generator to provide electrical power from mechanical energy. The
swing generator will eventually be used as part of the human-powered generators
utilized in the DC House project.

A swing generator prototype was built for this project, which demonstrates the
feasibility of its use for electrical power source. Detailed design and construction of the
swing generator is presented in this report along with results from hardware testing.

Design, Fabrication and Experimentation of Swing Electricity

Power Generation System

Energy need of today’s world is growing day by day because of consumption of

larger extent of electricity due to growing population. Project is about generation of
electricity by swing. Large numbers of children play in a playground, part of the power of
their play caused by swing can be usefully harnessed resulting in significant energy
storage. Yielded energy can be converted to electrical energy to be utilized for many
applications. Oscillatory motion of swing is transferred to shaft attached, which further
transfers its angular motion to rotary motion of the flywheel, rigidly connected at the
end. The flywheel is connected to a generator by specific transmission to conserve and
increase the speed at generator end. The generator converts the mechanical energy
into electrical energy to be utilized for many applications. Current swing is able to
generate enough electricity to power a 15 W DC fan and a 9 W DC bulb. The method
provides a low-cost, low-resource means of electricity generation, especially for use in
developing countries. (Taweekun, Arif, Fawzi, Asmuin, Batcha, Noranai, 2018)

Electrical Energy Generation by using Swing

Now a day conventional energy sources are few in nature, they are decreasing
day by day. It is needed to find out new energy sources. Children play is best sources to
generate electricity. This paper is related to design and fabrication of swing to generate
electricity. To convert oscillatory motion of swing in to rotary motion of bicycle wheel and
dynamo is connected to bicycle wheel and dynamo convert the mechanical energy into
electrical energy. This is very useful in the purpose of lightening of garden. Children can
enjoy swing and can also useful in generation of electricity. It will reduce the energy
consumption required to lightening the garden at the night. Paper contains design
calculations, results for fabrication of swing. Project contains the use of sprocket, chain
wheel, bicycle wheel, bearings, dynamo, rectifier, battery and LED bulb etc. (Goyrak,
