THE FIFTH COURSE ON INTEGRATION OF GEOLOGICAL, GEOPHYSICAL, AND

GEOCHEMICAL DATASETS

(16th to 28th July, 2018)

COURSE REPORT

The fifth course on integration of geological, geophysical, and geochemical data

was inaugurated on the 16th July 2018 by Shri V. K. Chittora, Dy. Director General &
Head Mission V, GSITI in the august presence of Shri P. S. Anilkumar, Dy. Director
General, GSITI and other senior officers of GSITI and GSI, SR, Hyderabad.

The two week course was envisaged for imparting training to the participants in
raster / vector geo-processing, integration and modeling of geological, geochemical,
geophysical / aero-geophysical and remotely sensed datasets on GIS platform for
targeting mineral deposits. The present course was also designed to develop procedures
for interpretation, interpolation and modelling of geospatial variables using Boolean,
Binary Evidence, Index Overlay utilizing crisp sets as well as Fuzzy Logic. The course
included an in-depth analysis of the procedures of detecting geochemical anomaly using
classical statistics, robust statistics, centred-log ratio transformation, Geostatistical
methods and fractal analysis. Basic principles of geochemical mapping were also
explained. The participants completed exercises based on predictive modelling by
integrating multidisciplinary spatial data sets.

Course content:

 Geochemical mobility of elements

 Concepts of geophysical methods in mineral prospecting
 Spatial referencing and superimposition of geospatial datasets
 Elements of Classical Statistics, Exploratory Data Analysis, Detection of Geochemical
Anomalies & preparation of geochemical evidence maps
 Concepts of Geo-statistics, Deterministic & Geo-statistical Interpolation methods
 Raster & vector geo-processing
 Spatial Analysis & Spatial Modeling in GIS
 Integration of thematic layers & Mineral Prospectivity Mapping using Boolean, Index-
Overlay and Fuzzy Logic
 GIS Exercises and case studies
Project Work:

Participants carried out project work utilsing various data processing and GIS
techniques acquired during the training programme and made presentation on the
same.

Course Material:

The trainees were provided with soft copy material consisting of tutorials, books /
handbooks, research publications, presentations and reading matter on statistics, geo-
statistics, data integration and GIS.
