More than just floors
Affordable Flooring opened its doors
in 1994 and is more than just floors and
floor coverings.
Affordable Flooring’s main goal is to
ensure customer satisfaction with both
the product and the service. The business
thrives on customer and professional
referrals, says Gehrke, who’s part of the
entire sales process.
“Because this is a small, locally owned
and operated business, customers have
the benefit of working with the same
salesperson throughout the process,”
Gehrke says. “Any questions or changes
to orders can be quickly accommodated.
We take pride in our relationships, as
well as our product.”
Gehrke and his family moved to
Cadillac years ago to experience the Up
North lifestyle. His family has a history in
the flooring business, he grew up working
in his dad’s business, and he wanted to
bring his professional experience and his
passion for sales to an area where he also
could envision his family flourishing and
enjoying the great outdoors.
“Our business is unique because it is
family owned and operated,” he says. “We take a lot of satisfaction and creating a business that grows with
pride in putting our family name and practice behind the community.

Five generations
In today’s fast paced world of supermarkets and big box
stores, the small town grocer has become a rare entity. But
one northern Michigan family has been providing good food
from good people for nearly 100 years.
The story begins with a horse and carriage in Moddersville.
Chris and Susie Ebels sold groceries to the residents of
Falmouth and saw an opportunity for growth. In 1920 Chris
moved his operations to Falmouth. Five generations later,
the Ebels family is still selling groceries to the residents of
Falmouth. The same principles that brought success to Chris
and Susie are now helping their progeny take the family
business into the next generation.
“Our business wouldn’t be here without God’s blessing.

Downtown fixture brings an impact
When Kaycie Ramsey first started working in
retail in downtown Cadillac, she fell in love with
the downtown community.
In 2015, her dream of owning a downtown
business came true when she purchased the resale
store, Your Sister’s Closet. By moving it to a new
location with additional floor space, she made it
her own.
“In reality, anyone that gets into downtown
business doesn’t get rich,” Kaycie said. “I knew that
when I took this over. But I wanted to have a bigger
impact on the community. I’m hoping I’m doing
that, whether it’s raising awareness about domestic
violence, suicide prevention or cancer awareness,
there are so many wonderful and worthy causes out
there. I’m hoping I can shed some light on them to
make a difference in somebody’s life.”
Kaycie is on the Board of Directors of Tears from
Daniel, a nonprofit that brings awareness to suicide
prevention and has a goal to shine a spotlight on
mental health and someday open a center.
Kaycie is also mourning the loss of her older
sister, who died unexpectedly in June. Kelly was
