INTRODUCTION

Reading is one of the reason why we understand the written information not
only by understanding the new information but also in communication through written
symbols. but these reading skills must have the this ability the Cognitive Capacity and
Learning Motivation these are one of the essential tool in effective reading
comprehension. Look into the reading abilities of college students some have the
ability of Cognitive capacity reading but lack of Motivation to read. This are one of the
most common problem in Middle school or even in college that`s why there are still
some students know how read but they don’t understand what they read there are
also students know how to read but lack of motivation. Remember that in order to get
new information is by reading and the sources of these information are in printed
materials however in order to access in these new information are by reading
.Cognitive, and motivational factors were examined as predictors
of individual differences in the reading comprehension abilities of good and poor
readers.. Now in this studies we will find out if one of this elements lack in a student,
he can still manage to understand the written information.
RELATED STUDIES
Reading proficiency is an important tool of ones success in the academe.it serves as a
strong shield or weapon against illiteracy.reading is a necessary skill in order to have
good foundation of knowledge.at present, learning depends upon ones ability to
interpret the printed page accurately and fully. In fact majority of thge students gain
knowledge profiency by reading, hence the skills of listening speaking, reading and
writing are likely to be developed through a systematized study of enduring core
literacy works.
In international setting, particularly in U.S. English courses were identified as rigorous
college level studies. It topics were centered on literature, advanced composition and
critical thinking. With its reading and writing assignments and stimulating class
discussion these courses were directed in developing efficient readers responsible
writers and sensible thinkers among students . however the level of reading
proficiency of some college students declined in the past decade.

RELATED LITERATURE

#READING PROFIENCY
requires meta cognitive process of evualuating comprehension and regulating
defficulties.
#LETIRAL COMPREHENSION
this category involved a basic understanding of a reading material manifestated by
knowledge of details that are directly incorporated in its fuccos.
#INTERPRETIVE COMPREHENSION
this involved processes of perceiving ideas and information implied in the reading
material such as data that can be acquired by reading between the lines
#CRITICAL EVALUATION
This level of comprehension involved determining truths and untruths noting
inconsistencies and fallacies or errors in reasoning in a reading material.
#INTEGRATIVE COMPREHENSION
The ability to draw relative insights and forceful conclusion from the reading text
applying lessons to real life situation.

COGNITIVE CAPACITY AND READING COMPREHENSION

Cognitive capacity and reading comprehension is the ability to understand what a

certain student or a person read about. Cognitive capacity is also the process where a
person is encoding a certain information in his mind or brain. this occurs when he read
something out of the information he has seen. All student has this ability, they read
fluently , they know how to read what is in the written information, books, materials ,
and other source of information that he can decode. All person has this ability but
some of them know how read but don’t understand what they have been read this is
the most common problem in some students especially in middle school and colleges.
From a cognitive view, reading comprehension involves several sub processes : visual
analysis, phonological recoding, lexical access and word interpretation, syntactic
parsing, semantic integration, and textual organization. These processes take place
interactively, and are constrained by the limited capacity or efficiency of a central
executive processor called working memory. Their end-product is a coherent mental
representation of the text content. Individuals, children, and adults differ widely in
their reading comprehension efficiency;

THEORIES, COGNITIVE CAPACITY AND READING COMPREHENSION

#Constructivism Theory
Focuses on how the learner internalizes new information and creates their own
understanding.Examines how people combine new knowledge with their already
created schemas and Much of the After reading stage focuses on the skills the readers
dynamically employ to comprehend a reading - building their own interpretations of
new information.
#Constructivism Theory – Examples are
Summarize – Explicit vs. Implicit (Not Paraphrasing)
Students perceptions of the reading will be impacted by the prior or background
knowledge
Synthesize – mix new and old information to generate a personal understanding
Students take ownership of the information - strengthens the students ability to
retrieve information
Evaluation – Form and Support Opinions.
#Information Processing Theory
Focuses on what goes on inside the learners head – learning, memory & performance
the internal mechanisms that help people process information Many of the skills of the
Before and During reading stages focuses on mechanisms readers dynamically employ
to comprehend a reading.
#Examples
Prior Knowledge and Making Connections
Computer Analogy – Forgetting to Save the information to your long-term memory
Predictions and Questions Ways of interacting with the information
Monitoring Comprehension
Metacognition – Thinking about thinking The reader is able to adapt their own
reading process to ensure comprehension – fix-it-up strategies
LEARNING MOTIVATION AND READING COMPREHENSION

Learning motivation is a psychological , spiritual , and emotional reading

comprehension this kind of reading is the reader try to read more or gather more
data even without the command of others it is the ability of a person to pursue
reading more data or information even without a task for him to do so.this ability is
one of the most important to a reader specialy those students who are struggling
in understanding English language if a certain student have always motivation to
read his potential to become a fluent reader are high. Reading motivation not only
improve his habits in reading but also his knowledge will increase and a lot of
information will be restored in his mind or brain . even a slow learner person can
achieve his understanding in a certain data if he had the motivation skill.
CONCLUSION
I conclude that cognitive capacity and learning motivation reading
comprehension are both needed in reading comprehension. Cause if a certain student
lack one of this element he might not understand of what he reads or even know how
to read but lack of motivation in reading. To achieve an effective reading
comprehension a student must have both. Cognitive reading to understand what he
had read and learning motivation to enhance more his ability to read and to have a
habit to read more about in order to gather more information and to improve more his
reading skills and fluent speaking.
