This activity tests your ability to produce written discourse in English, considering the business contexts in which you
can apply them.

INSTRUCTION:

Write a formal email to the CEO of a company you are interested in working with (Choose or create a company).
Consider the following aspects you NEED TO include.

1. Tell in this email how you found the job offer. You can use your own name/last name.
2. Briefly express your occupation and your interest in working for the company (Why is the company so
attractive for you?) Be concrete but relevant.
3. Concisely describe your skills (you can invent information) and how you have impacted the places where
you have worked before.
4. Say you are attaching your Curriculum vitae or Resume
5. Close the email appropriately requesting for a prompt response, .

CONSIDER:

1. Format: Formal email.


2. Minimum 180 words, Maximum 200.
3. Remember to use the Language uses we have practiced so far: Past simple, present perfect, modals and
conditonals (if necessary). Other tenses are also possible: Present simple or continuous, for example.
4. Remember to be concrete and use appropriate punctuation, vocabulary, grammar and structure.
5. Avoid informal writing: No contractions (e.g: wanna, isn’t, don’t etc… instead: want to, is not, do not…)
6. Proofread your text for content: make sure you don’t omit any important details (or repeated yourself)
7. Proofread your report for spelling, punctuation and grammar.
8. Check this criteria: 20 points= 5.0

NOTE: You can take as an example the letter/email we worked in class from Mark Brown. Remember? I sent it
to your emails in class when you made the exercise.

Should address the information required in the input text.(FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION)
Organization: (3 points)
Appropriate use of the writing patterns and structure defined by PURPOSE, DETAILS, CLOSING in an
email.
Range: (3 points)
Vocabulary reflecting an appropriate level of complexity for this level (connectors, suitable vocabulary)
Register: ( 3points)
Formal
Language accuracy: (4 points)
An appropriate use of the different tenses to accomplish coherence (Present simple, present
continuous, Past simple, past continuous, present perfect, modals, if necessary). Also, evidence an
accurate use of vocabulary and its spelling. Spelling will be taken into account, so read your text as
many times as you can.
Target reader: (3 points)
Should be informed about the writer’s point of view through relevant but concrete and clear
comments. NO USE OF TRANSLATOR IS ALLOWED. Just use the resources as a tool (dictionary, Linguee,
etc)

Dear, Mr. Carlos.

I am contacting with you for the job of commercial advisor, in reply to your advertisement in the newspaper, let me
