CHECKPOINT SPIRITUAL GROWTH

TOPIC GOD WANTS TO USE YOUNG PEOPLE MIGHTILY

PROPOSED TITLE UNDERDOGS
ABSTRACT

As a follow up to our discipleship series, it is best to help our young people know that God wants to use them mightily
and that they are not alone in this journey. As they pursue in making disciples, they will see challenges, they will get
disappointed, and they will be tempted to give up. That is why they need to see that in the Scriptures and throughout
history, God used young people. He empowered them. Even though there are people who didn’t believe in them, God
encouraged them and they made a great impact in their generation and the next.

OBJECTIVES

1. To see young people step out in faith in doing what God wants them to do
2. For young people to have a proper view of themselves
3. For young people to be inspired and encouraged to keep following the Lord and doing His mission because God
desires to use them mightily for His glory.

BREAKDOWN OF MESSAGES
WEEK 1
TOPIC: DAVID: STRENGTH IN THE LORD

PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 17
DESCRIPTION:
What do you do when people who are close to you don’t believe in you? That’s what happened to David. Instead of
being insecure and giving up on God’s calling to him, he found security in the Lord. He knew how weak he was but he
knew that the God he worships is omnipotent. Just like David, there are people who will not believe in us but always
remember that we have Someone who desires to empower us and give us strength. Let us get our strength in the Lord
to face the challenges and opportunities He is allowing us to face. Remember that God will not lead us to a place where
He will not strengthen us.

WEEK 2
TOPIC: DANIEL: STRENGTH IN MAKING A STAND

PASSAGE: Daniel 1
DESCRIPTION:
A lot of young people easily give in to the desires of the flesh or the pleasures of the world. Instead making a stand for
what is right, it seems easier to just follow the ways of the world. The good news is, there’s a young man named Daniel
who also experienced pressure from the world. Instead of giving in, he made a stand and God honored him and his
friends because of that. Young people need to see that even if they are young they can make a stand to honor God and
do what is right.

WEEK 3
TOPIC: JOSIAH: STRENGTH IN BROKENNESS AND HUMILITY

PASSAGE: 2 Kings 22

DESCRIPTION:
What if you were given a task that seems way beyond your age? Will you do a mediocre job? Will you give up? Or will
you fulfill it with excellence? They key to be excellent in doing something big is humility. A young boy named Josiah
experienced this and he became one the greatest Kings of Israel.
WEEK 4
TOPIC: JEREMIAH: STRENGTH TO PERSEVERE

PASSAGE: Jeremiah 1

DESCRIPTION:

Some people describe today’s generation as a generation that easily gives up. They don’t like to be pressured and they
would rather want the easy way out. However, we all know that life is full of challenges and pressures. That is why we
need to help our young people see the beauty in perseverance and teach them how to be strong as they run this
marathon called life.

WEEK 5
TOPIC: TIMOTHY: STRENGTH TO IMPACT GENERATIONS

PASSAGE: 1 Timothy 4

DESCRIPTION:

Some young people tend to view themselves as too young to do something amazing or something great. The good
thing is, that’s not how God sees us. He wants to empower us so we can serve Him with our all. It is true that some
people will look down on us but our role is not to please people but to show people what it means to follow Jesus.
